Anyone know how hard it would be to swap my current KA24E with a SR20DET
the exact engine I would purchase is http://www.403drift.com/product.asp?ID=5
or http://www.403drift.com/product.asp?ID=4
or http://www.403drift.com/product.asp?ID=6
and another question is does anyone know where I could purchase a NEW KA24DE from.

Dont waste your time with the KA IMO. Grab an SR20 or an RB series... They are much stronger and have alot more potential being turbo built motors. If you have any experience pulling a motor and putting it back in, it should be hard. For a beginner i would recommend finding someone with some kind of engine replacement experience. The hardest part of the whole ordeal is the wiring harness.... But there is tons of support out there for these swaps on the car, with a good deal of parts needed for it...

It won't be easy, but if you know what you are doing than it won't be too hard. Plenty have done it before. Or you could do a single cam swap... as in an LS1  . This guy around here has an LS1 240.

Nah, just drop a nice RB26DET in there and make all us pansies cry... IMHO, no motor sounds better than a well tuned RB26!

sr20det>rb26det and the sr20 from my research is much easier to install the engine and tranny just bolt in with no modification

LOL, are you serious? The SR20 is nothing to the rb26... If you take into considerations its expense and rarity here in the states, then yes, its not a good choice, but as far as performance goes its the best motor Nissan has ever developed. Thats why its in their flagship car, the R34 skyline.
You are correct in the manner that the SR20 is a simple bolt in, that because it came in the sylvia edition 240's, so all the parts are pre-made, except for the wiring harness which will have the be modified to fit in a RHD vehicle.
In all honesty i think you should go with the SR20 simply because it will be much easier to obtain parts and information on it when you build it up or repair it. Its much more cost effective than an RB motor.
I have the unfortunate luxury of dealing with a motor that is found only over sea's, i have a 1JZ-gte in my supra. This motor never made it here to america, so im stuck with a very small choice of small time vendors here in the US that deal with these parts, other wise its comes from japan. $$$

OK, first of all, the KA24DE is a beast. turbo'd, it puts down as much power as an SR20DET at 5 PSI. dont dismiss it just cause its from a truck, cause power and torque will be above the SR or CA.
the SR20 (and CA18 if youre considering) can be put in at home, RB26 is full of potential, but remember you have to get a RB25 tranny. that and the fabricating to put it in adds up.
check out club240.com for info, and consider jdmracingmotors.com for the engine. since youre not starting off with a DOHC, then go SR. its easier and you can push 13 PSI with a few add ons and such.

The KA24 is a decent motor... To an extent... 300-350whp yes, any more than that and your pushing it. Plus to turbo charge it right your having to swap all the internals to lower the compression so you can run more than 7lbs of boost.
Its smarter to just make the jump to the SR20 and get it over with. Upgrading it is much easier than the KA24... Just bolt on a big turbo and injectors/afpr and your done! Do that to a KA24 and youll blow the motor apart.

this guy seems to disagree.
its harder but more rewarding in the long run I'd say. unless you want to keep the T25 in the SR20 or at most upgrade to T28, KA-T is the way to go if you want mad power from a T3/T4. depends what you want.
all this fighting for the KA24 when I plan to get a pignose 240SX and swap in a SR20 :)

that is PRECISELY what is going to happen now. I have already come to the decision to swap to a S14 Blacktop. I already know whats needed that being
parts from DOHC: tachometer, Power steering pump and lines, AC Compressor or make a bracket
and thats it, and everything else bolts right in. just need the engine, tranny, MAF, ignitor, and ECU which you get with most engines you buy...

A great source for parts i strongly recommend is RHDJAPAN.com
I bought my SARD 550cc injectors from them and they were shipped from japan. The got to my door about 6 business days later! To be honest they are a kick ass company that works specifically with the rare imports. Its one of the few places that distributes twin turbo headers for my motor... Gotta love them.
BTW, you have to sign up with them to view prices, but its free so no worries.

old topic I know. But I say a KA-T is my favorite, the torque curve is much nicer, and you don't have to swap in any engine. All the parts made for the SR (intercooler, exhaust, intake) can be used on the KA.
go to ka-t.org. check it out for an option, I'd do it if I had an 240SX...if for no other reason to be original.

The 240SX is an awesome sleeper if you build the motor up right. In stock form they are excellent track cars, suspension is built for curves, very fun.
