What all can I do to increase the fuel efficiency for my car? Here is what I can think of:

1. Holes in air filter box (more and cleaner air)
2. New air filter (K&N)
3. New muffler/exaust (???)
4. "hood scoop" (official volvo scoop off of IPD)

synthetic oil, add zmax to your oil, air filter high flow, correct and new spark plugs. Also you have a 1992 power programmers are really effective you can even have custom program perramiters to increase gas mileage made.

I have iridium plugs. Now, would a new fuel filter be good? I have no clue when it was last replaced, at least 20,000 miles ago.
And what about a more efficient turbo? Like, one that gives me more power AND better fuel economy?

I would recommend finding out what type of plugs came stock on your car and stick with it if it's resistor you shouldn't up to iridium and vise versa. Or you could go pulsar i'm hering great reviews on them and there perfect for turbo's applications. A more efficient turbo would take a year or more to pay for it self in gas mileage you might as well use the money for gas.

How much are you willing to spend for better fuel economy?

1. Drilling holes in your airbox is never a good idea...

2. A Cold Air Intake can improve fuel economy from 0-5mpg (depends on the car, on my jeep it has no benefit at all)

3. A better flowing exhaust allows the engine to breathe much better. This generally translates into better power and fuel economy, just try to stay away from straight pipes as they are illegal in most states.
A set of free flowing headers and a new intake manifold can also improve fuel economy. :sonic:
4. A hood scoop will help cool down the engine a bit more at high speeds, but I don't think it will benefit your fuel economy much...

And don't buy into those fuel economy boosters like tornado air, 99% of them do not work!

Driving like a speed demon has it's down sides, as I get right around hummer like fuel economy when i'm on the gas a lot. (14.5 Avg Eco right now :o )

Drive like you have no brakes, take off from stops slowly, and come to a stop slowly. It really helps a lot.

I take off from stops slowly, but hit the brakes a lttle harder. does this help better than smoothing out the brakes? I have a spare set of pads that I got for free (:p)

It is EXTREMELY difficult for me to stay out of the boost, but if I do I can hit 30 mpg easy on the interstate. Generally though I'm at about 24.5 mpg with a lot of 'spirited' driving.

I was able to hit 28 mpg staying completely in vaccum, taking the car out of gear going downhill, and coasting up to stoplights slowly, sometimes able to keep the car going by taking my time coasting and letting the light turn green. My commute at the time was 30 miles one way (60 miles a day), six miles interstate, 6 miles 60 mph highway, and about 18 miles of 55 mph highway with SEVENTEEN stoplights.

How about polishing the intake and exhaust? And new plug wires? Fuel Filter? Oxygen Sensor? Perfect power 6 (http://ipdusa.com/Volvo-940960/Engine/Engine-Electrical/Perfect-Power-6/p-136-271-279-2736/)? Adjustable Cam Gear? Boost Actuator? entire exhaust system? Auxiliary cooling fan? ETC ETC ETC?
