I live in Canada and have had a Mazdaspeed6 for just over 2 weeks. I love it, but I have some questions that the owner's manual doesn't address, or plain and simply gets wrong.

Why won't the CD player play MP3 CDs?

What is the 'MEDIA' button on the stereo for?

Why are my scuff plates not the stainless steel 'Mazdaspeed' scuff plates?

Thanks!

I can answer the first one at least. CD players are designed to play .WAV files not .mp3 files. Turn your mp3s into wavs and you are golden. You could probably find an aftermarket CD player that playes mp3s.

The media button I think is an AUX button, it will switch to what ever you plug into the stereo, like satelite radio

I appreciate your response very much. That said, it answers neither of my questions.

I am well aware of how to create an Audio CD from MP3 files. The MS6's owner's manual claims to play CDs that are data sessions comprised of MP3 files up to 8 folders deep. Heck, it even claims to display the ID3 tag information on its display. Not happening in my car...

And as for the Media button, there is a 'SAT' button right next to it (I figured that one out pretty quickly...). I figure that the MEDIA button is for an external MP3 player (or equivalent device), but I was hoping someone could shed some light on it definitively.

Thanks anyway.

Well heres an answer to one of your questions anyway. The Media button is only active if you have the tape or MD accessory, and is used to operate them it can also be used as an auxilary input. If you wanna plug your Ipod in its a good idea to get one of these http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=91&products_id=142. As far as the other two Im not 100 percent sure but I would call the dealer and ask about the plates and see what they say. Enjoy the car man, hope I was of some assistance. =)

Haha, not cheap but its worth it if you want it to still work with steering wheel controls etc. =)

You are right, many people would pay that if it retains your ability to use the steering wheel controls, that is pretty cool.

Im pretty sure steering wheel controls the Ipod, otherwise it would be kinda useless dont you think?

I've got an '06 Mazda3 that has the same deck as your 6. I was a little cornfused about the Media button as well until i figured out it's mainly for an ipod. I dont have the accessory but yes you'd be able to control the ipod from the steering wheel.

You might want to check out www.mazdagear.com. They've got the cheapest prices for genuine mazda parts that i've been able to find. I bought my Sirius unit from them so I can tell you that if I need anymore parts I'll be getting them from that site. The ipod module is $116 there.

And please post if youre ever able to get mp3 discs to work!
