Hey guys, I was digging through my old data on the computer nad found some really good old box designs if anyone is interested :)
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3341/compbox6bm.jpg
**THIS IS NOT A STREET BOX!! DO NOT PLAY MUSIC THROUGH THIS DESIGN!** This box is a competition box only, and WILL NOT play music...well, it WILL play music, but your sub will unload and basicly tear itself apart. This is a burp box meant for dirty SPL. :)

This is the design I built for adas, and is very similar to the box that's in the video in my signature, and it's a great street box. With my Resonant Engineering SE 12", and JBL BP600.1, I hit my max SPL of 140.7. In the competition box, I achieved 147.3
Feel free to use 'em

Damn, 140 DB, did your ears start bleeding? Did you use mdf or hdf?

3/4" MDF for everything :)
Right now im in experimenting with linear equal ports...ones that achieve the same x and y axis thoughout the box, and doesn't gain size in the corners.
Anyone uses these designs, lemme know how they worked out for you :)

Have you ever build a box for a del sol to go behind the seats. I think their would be room if I removed the two glove boxes and hacked the center console. just wondered if you guys have a standard design. I have a friend in vegas who is willing to build one for me but I think you have more knowledge of accoustics. I would prefer a sealed box 2 or three subs if 3 subs I want one 10 and two 12s. or maybe even a step down to two 8s and one 12. In some of my older systems I found that my 12s had trouble with a certain reverse base sample that is common in Drum and bass music. I will need some extra clearance on the sides and back so that I can cover it with fiberglass later to blend with the car. I live in phoenix and drive with the top down alot so all those theives would be quick to try and jack my car. But now that I have 3 kill switches they would try and get the box, or the subs. I plan on bolting the box to the center x brace and then fiberglass over it. I also plan on filling in the screw heads with epoxy after it is complete. When I blow a sub it will suck to change it but I should be able to handle it :D.
Any ideas? I forgot to mention I am going for reproduction not spl. I also want to preserve symmetry. no lopsided speaker setup even though I know. I could make the same size grills.

When I was building boxes for people, I always needed to see the space that I would be installing it before I said anything about it. Can you get me some pictures of what you mean? And possibly some measurements?
EDIT:
And in my personal experience, running different sized subs in a vehcle *generally* give an odd sound.....but if we can manage to give the two smaller subs a a seperate chamber than the larger sub, it should be alright AND you'll need to run two different amps OR two seperate EQ's so that we can seperate the the frequencies the different sized subs will play. You'll probably want the smaller subs playing 100mhz+ frequencies, with your larger sub playing the sub 100's...namely somewhere around 80ish.
Honestly spooky, I'd go with 2 10's or maybe even 3 8's, depending on what your space allowance is :)

I already thought of all that. I dom't know if you know but I work on large concerts and such, often having electronic crossovers that have 4 EQ bands. Low, low mid, mid, and high. I am not sure what I can find to do this yet. At work I know the exact equipment but not for my car :D. I am going to look at some options. I am now thinking about 2 12s but two 8s at the kickpanels if i can fit it next to the clutch petal. I dunno yet. I just wanted to know if you had anything specific from a past install disigned.

i have 2 x 15" 2000watt peak 1000wattRMS and a 12" 1000 watt peak 800 watt rms and i was thinking of installig the 2 15's inverted, do you have to design the box differently for inverted subs or not, also how big would u recommend the box size be?

Box design is all based on what performance your looking for from the sub. As you can see in his previous posts, he labeled what each box design would be better for. So some questions need to be answered for more info on a box design, such as, where is the box going? Back of an SUV? Hatchback? Space is an issue, especially for 15's. What do you use the subs for? Competition? Music? Home theatre? Also some speaker specs help too.

well its for the back of a small-medium sized sedan and its used for just the best, loudest music possible, space isnt really too much of an issue as there is a fair amount of boot space. and what kind of specs? like physical size or technical performance like wattage, ohms. brand?
audiopipe 2000watt peak power 1000watt RMS, 15", dual voice coil, aluminium cone, 2x2 ohms, frequency response: 20Hz-600Hz sensitivity 98.6dB/w/m, 250mm(9 21/25")deep, 150 oz magnet.
12" pioneer 1000watt peak power 800watt RMS
i'll be using a 1000watt kenwood mono amp for each of the 15" subs so they should be pumping decently, i dont know all the stats for the 12" sub as i lent it to a friend and it is currently not in my possetion.

I need two 1cuft sealed boxes or one double sealed with 1cuft per chamber for my 12" gt4's, my fiberglass build is taking longer than I thought lol

Well, you mentioned you want the best AND loudest music. Thats almost two conflicting aspects for a speaker. Its more of one or the other. If you want super loud then you will sacrifice a bit of SQ for it. And vice versa. There are box designs along the lined of whats considered SQL... This is a ported design typically and tuned fairly low. Thus the low end response is very good, it has decent SQ and can be pretty loud (on the lower low notes compared to a typical box), But mid bass and even more so the high frequency bass will be lacking. I personally use this type setup on my RE's. I like it alot for most music, but at times wish i was using a sealed box.
With you using one 15", im thinking you best bet would be a similar setup. But i would tune slightly higher. Probably around 38hz or so and that will improve spl a notch and still have great lows... Plus the box wont need to be as large.... If size really is no issue then i can draw out some plans for you to use... just let me know. Or krunky can if he ever gets back in here.....lol

Thats a very simple build. Built any shaped box, a rectangle will be easiest. Build it to be ~1.15 cu/ft per chamber to account for sub displacement.
And a quick question. Why did you choose 1 cu/ft? IMO i think thats very small still, even for a sealed setup. I flush mounted a Polk SR 12" in a scion and gave the sub about 1.15 cu/ft after sub displacement and the low bass is a bit weak and the sub tends to peak very easily when pushed hard. This is running off recommended wattage as well.
If you need help with a specific design or shape/size/dimensions, just say so bud....

I'm using jbl's recomended volume, the 1cuft does include the driver displacement but I may run a single sub in a ported box
the ported box needs 2.25cuft including driver/port displacement with a 13.31" x 4" port

I need some help to make a box,for my truck. The space i have is this under the back bench.29 3/4 max wide,25" max depth, and 5 3/4 high,is for 2 10's alpine 1043d shallow woofers.Any drawings to help me.I never have to deal with such small space.Oh and please any extra information welcome.Im goin to use a chunch 1000 wtts mono amp.All i need is a drawing for the box with all the measurments,Thank's in advance alexisd from Overclock .net.Here is the woofer, hope the link work.http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=SWS-1043D&lang=en&tab=F

Then think of what shape you would like... Anything will work pretty easy for you since your building a sealed box. You can use this box calculator to help you find the final displacement. Just be sure to subtract about .15 cu/ft to account for the sub displacement.

You can often find prebuilt boxes already made for subs to drop in. And it can typically be easier to pay for a built one than spend hours trying to make one that fits aswell and looks as nice.

That box is goin in a 2007 toyota tundra. And i know that soundcrew have 1.But is fun and learn process behind the whole project.
If you can give me some ideas or measurments great.Could be either way for SPL or SQ.You think is better with a single chamber per woofer,or share box for the 2 woofers no dividers?Ported or sealed?

Is there any particular limitations to the box? Where is it going to go in the truck? Is it single cab? Is there a back seat? No back seat? I need to know. I need to know what my limits are on size if any... Look in krunk krackers sig, he has a link to his sub setup, so that will show you just how big a box can get for a single sub... And a sub like that can utalize it! I have two of those same subs in my trunk....

Limitations=space i only have 29 3/4 max width,20" depth,and 5 1/2 high.
Goin under the rear bench seat.
Is a double cab.
You have 2 alpines 1023d?
What box you have.I need 2 chambers or single box for the 2 woofers?

I have no alpines... And i custom built the box i have, you can see it in my picture gallery.
Building a custom ft box for under the seat will be very difficult if you have never done it before.... IMHO, buy a pre built one... It would be much easier and much quicker.

You keep asking for measurements... The problem with that is there needs to base limits for the dimensions... Ill design you a box man, im not so sure krunky poo will show his face on here... I dont think he has for quite some time...
Do me a favor and go measure the max size the box can be in the trunk of your car, or give the max size you will accept. Need hight, depth and width in inches. From there ill build you a nice box.
Im assuming that you chose this design for the fact that its an SQL box. It gives good sound quality, yet good SPL at the same time. Its a good mix of both worlds. Im using a similar setup on my 12's in my old car, but was tuned a tad bit lower... 2cu/ft per sub, tuned to 32hz.
PM the measurements and ill get a build design to you asap!
