I have been looking at cars and trucks and i don't know a whole lot about trucks so im wondering what are some good trucks that would hold 4 people 4 doors would be good im not really looking for the best. im not gonna be using it for towing maybe doing some off roading here and there. also looking for ones around 6000 used so what are some good choices and.

Well, I would avoid the full size trucks then, and go for maybe a Chevy Colorado or Dodge Dakota. Or perhaps a midsize Nissan/Toyota truck, but they generally go for higher than the price you are looking at.

The irritating thing to me is that the Dodge Dakota isn't really a 'small' pickup, in fact if you take the Dakota and park it beside any of the full size trucks from the 80's, the dang thing is just as big or bigger than they are.

I always wished they'd build a small Dodge pickup and put the Caliber SRT-4 motor in it, that would be FUN :D

If gas milage isn't too much of an issue, you might look at a RAM 1500 - the motors in those things run forever. lol

(And SRT, my dad has a twin cam toyota SR5 - the smallest one they make - (I don't remember what size engine - I think it's 3.2 V6) - it really surprised me the first time I drove it. It kickes pretty well...up to about 40mph. lol)

You actually might like one of those...he's got a 2-door 4-seater...tiny, but it's been very reliable.

If you get a ram 1500 do NOT get the 4.7 liter engine though, that's what we have in ours and we are f'ing lucky if we get 14 miles per gallon combines, maybe 15 on the highway. The 5.7 hemi does better by far.

lol, I had a 94' Ram 1500 with the 5.9L Magnum...I got 11.5 mpg max - and I was driving 300+ miles per week. (Needless to say, I sold it when gas prices went up. lol)

Well .. reading your posts it seems like you just got your license :D

My first vehicle is a jeep grand cherokee (WJ) .. and if maintained correctly these things are beastly. If you can keep your shifting below 2000 RPM (pretty easy) you can get decent mileage. However, if you take it upto the redline or even middle RPM's your MPG drops severely. It's a very nice truck, I love it. Very capable in the snow/sand/etc... whatever I throw at it, it takes. Also it's very easy to work on as long as you maintain it, very reliable. (and pretty damn fast too but don't tell your parents that .. first time my dad drove my truck he didn't expect it to do what it did lol).

I'm getting a F350 Powerstroke 7.3 Liter Dualie with an extra LONG bed for work (its close to 20 feet long and its a crew cab!) Considering I drive a coupe right now, should be a real change!

I drove a GMC Sierra until a couple of years ago and got a Laramie. You'd have no trouble getting a used Sierra around where I live for less than $6000, heck you could take mine!
But seriously I found with the Sierra it is basically a good truck as far as engine and drive train, but the electronic stuff and motors has been a headache. If it gets too cold and you press the button for the power window and there is any moisture that got down into your door, that's it, the motor burns itself out and new ones cost $200. Or the dashboard display that stopped showing odometer and the PRND123 display when it got too cold. Drive over a bump or push the odometer/ trip mileage button really hard and you could get it to work for a few seconds. Or if I drove it long enough after a cold start the display would come on. I wouldn't have cared, but since my birthday is in March and it's cold where I live, the guy who did inspection gave me a hard time over not being able to see the mileage. I asked at the GMC shop and they said it could be $50 or it could be $250 to fix it, they would't know until they opened it up. It was obvious that it was related to thermal expansion of something, so I took it apart myself and stuck a piece of a toothpick into the assembly to wedge the components together. Its worked fine ever since then. :) I had other stupid problems with the electronics while it was still udner warranty, they got fixed but it still annoyed me. This was a 3-door extended cab BTW.
The Laramie gets about the same mileage, has a smaller turning radius and to be honest I think it is a truck for people who really could use and SUV but wouldn't be caught dead driving one. It is not as good in the snow as the Sierra (part of that could be the tires, but I miss the 4WD on demand feature). Mine has 4 doors and the crew cab.
Neither one is going to set any speed records, if I'd wanted that I would have bought the Rausch that a dealer made me a nice offer on (I think list was something like $45k and I could have had it for $29k :D). I was tempted but all I saw was a lot of gas being burned and since I commute 60 miles a day that seemed like a lousy idea.

It seems like any GM vehicle has trouble with the little stuff like that - I've had no end to the trouble with random sensors on my Regal, and soon I'll be replacing the driverside window motor for the second time.

my moms friend is a manager or something at a GMC dealer ship and he said he would give me a good deal on a car if i save up for one so a GMC truck would be good.

It will be used, New powerstrokes (they don't make the 7.3 liter ones anymore) are over 50 grand!

No thanks!

It shouldn't bug me but it does. I've had to replace two window motors on my Sierra - hold it down a microsecond too long if it's cold and it fries itself.

I wonder, are there any aftermarket window motors that are a bit more durable?

Most after market ones are even worse then oem when it comes to window motors

Gandalf

Well, within the next few weeks, I'll need a new one - do you reccomend oem, or is there any particular aftermarket motors that you suggest? Also, I have a motor from a 99 Mitsubishi Mirage (1.5L)...the motors look the same....lol There's no way I could somehow getto-rig that motor to fit my car, is there?

My old Cherokee (the one I had in Germany with the diesel engine) was a good vehicle. That thing never let me down. Not sure about the newer ones after the merge with Daimler though.

well im talking about the older ones like 1990sMy Grand Cherokee is going strong at 174k miles, and has never let me down. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it hits 200k, or even 250k as long as it has proper maintenance.

Plus it still drives like it did at 100k. :D
