Question 1991 Chevy cavilier stereo wiring problem

Hey I am having troubles with my stereo in my cavilier. I got a new stereo recently and tryed hooking it up but had to cut the stock stereo plugin and rewire the wires to the new stereo plugin. The directions on the new stereo were pretty clear on what wire goes where and I had a wiring diagram to the cavilier but there are so many wires that there are no place for on the new plugin harness...like the dimmer wire, illuminating wire, and on the new stereo diagram it said the red wire goes to the key ignition wire but there is no key ignition wire from the car and also there is contestant and switched 12v wires and only one batterey wire on the new stereo harness and so after I figured that it wouldn't work unless I did some reasearch. I attempted to reconnect the old stereo but I ran into some problems...I didn't remember what wire was what because there are 2 yellow 2 grey 2 brown wires that idk are witch so I had been switching them around and the only thing I could get out of my stereo was...no display on clock/station reader and the rear left speaker didn't work and the left front speaker bearly worked and to my dismay was that those 2 speakers took yellow and brown which there was 2 of but the only way I could get any sound was if u hooked it up that way and what sound came out was somthing really weird...a morass code repeated over and over again and I let it play for 5 mins and same thing but the morass code only sounded when I plugged in the ant cord into the stereo....I even blew a fuse making shure that the yellow wire I had pluged into the switched wire of the harness was correct by strking agenst the ground wire which caused spark but I replaced the fuse with a bus fuse that looked the same besides the color which was originally red is now yellow....someone help I don't know how to post pics or video but could send through email. Thanks,Chris

The OEM radio has a dimmer function for the display. Most after market decks do not. So on the new deck you ignore the dimmer and you just need ground, a battery power, and an accessory. The accessory may be called "Ignition" in hte install instructions.

Her is the diagram for the OEM radio.
