Default Contemplating fiberglass in the trunk? :o

Well my car hunt is never ending..and who knows when I'll get my car.. but for now, I wanna do a fiberglass set-up, purely for aesthetics ..only thing is 2 measly little 10' look small, I was thinking of grabbing 2 12's or even 15's of kicker CVX's, and another 1606D to power them, and having the two big subs on each side at an angle, and the 2 smaller 10's in the middle ... would it sound crappy?

A better question for me is, would 4 10-inch kicker CVX's at around 550 watts each pound hard? The 2 10's I got now hit pretty hard, but I been wanting to get into the local SPL scene, so thoughts?

I think I should try getting a custom box for my subs made first, just to see them at their full potential rather than keeping them in some crap generic box.

Start with a custom built box for those subs in your car. @ 10" subs with a good box and amp tuned right should still be plenty loud! In fact if done right you should be louder than 90% of the people out there with 2 12"s on the road...

The 1606D will not power 2 12" CVX's and definitely not a 15" cvx...

I got it powering 2 10 inch CVX's at the moment and the poundage factor is pretty high. It does 1600 watts at 1 ohm, I got it setup to do 1100 at 2 ohms, which is underpowering my subs by around 50 watts each, not bad ? What do you think? I think it's a decent combo ... I will get the custom box made by a professional then and see how it goes. I want voluuumes

My friend has 2 w6's (12's) each moulded into either side of the trunk in his car, powered by a jl 1/1000 amp and his system hits very loud. Do you think custom box would let me get close-ish to his, or even surpass it?

The right box and right amp should get you close... But trust me man, that amp, while it is powerful, is certainly doubt it really pushes more than about 1200w at 1 ohm... A bigger and cleaner amp would be smart, but i would focus on a great built box first... But i wish i could remember the name of the company that built amazing boxes... Unfortunately most shops only know how to make boxes that look good, but dont perform as well as they should. The fact of the matter is that they just dont know how to tune a ported box right....

I've never actually heard subs in a fiberglass enclosure in person. Do they sound as good as a regular sealed MDF box? If you don't go for fiberglass, I can say good things about my slot ported box, besides the fact that it takes up most of my back....very loud

what DB is the local com competing around and 2 you need to decided on the correct subs for the vehicle then build the box to meet the requirements of those subs to the fullest. Even cheap subs of today or sounding better then yesturday first class equipment but you have to do the math on the subs requirements to get that man what the heck is that guy running effect. With out the correct inclosure it'll probably still sound good and impress people that don't know better but you won't get the most for your money. Think of it like a computer a low price part and a skilled overclocker can make it perform like a top of the line part.

Thanks for the input guys, never really though of it like that.

From what I've heard the hifonics 1606d amp is slightly underrated? I don't know if that's true but I bought one because of it, and it seems to hit pretty hard.

I been trolling on local car forums, I think I've found a good shop run by a guy thats been in the business for a long time, only thing is he charges around $350 or so for a box, but I'll hop on it anyways and just see how it goes. The whole install will probably end up costing me a grand though, so I just thought why not throw some more crap in there if I'm already spending so much ( I gotta add the cost of a decent component + deck set up ontop).

I'll keep you guys posted as my cashflow increases, I hate driving a honda accord, I will likely be picking up something like a 5th gen honda prelude soon (2 months or so?) so I guess I'll wait until then. some personal issues set me back a bit but looks like my bank accounts on the road to recovery so we'll see lol.

I've heard fiberglass enclosures..they don't sound that bad at all, and hit pretty hard, then again this was at local car shows so who knows? lol

$350 for the box you say? Is that a fiberglass box or a MDF box?

You could build your own box with a table saw, jigsaw, and drill for a good 50 bucks or so...

$350 sounds about right for a well built custom box. Hopefully the builder really knows his stuff or it will just be one big rip off! But if all goes well it should sound very good.
