What kind of vehicle are we putting this setup in? Are you in need of new speakers, or are you looking to add subwoofers for bass?

If you are going to put a sub in, there is no way $200 is going to be enough. $200 might buy you 1 sub and an amp for it, but they'd be cheaper, lower end. $200 also might get you a decent head unit and maybe some decent speakers too, but not a system.

You could get a head unit, amp, and speakers for now and save up some more later to get a sub. If you tuned the amp right, you might be able to get a little bit of kick out of your rear speakers if they are 6" or bigger...

You'll only find yourself wanting more after you get into it, and there's always going to be someone with a bigger setup than you. haha

Yea, that's why I was asking if he was looking to add subwoofers for bass, or just buy new speakers, lol. He could get 4 very nice speakers for 200, but if he wants to get an amp, might as well just save up some more, instead of getting a garbage one.

Well of course, i want a sub ahah. The bigger the better, but i really dont see a point in going overboard. Like i said, i really know nothing at all about this. And i know 200 isnt going to get much, but then again im not looking to spend a grand or anything - how much do you think i would need?

@Krash, I live in Detroit.

The fact of the matter is, you arent going to get anything but a new headunit for $200. A sub, amp, wires, and box alone will break $300 for anything worth your time and money. My suggestion to you is buy a nice headunit so you can listen to your MP3's for now, and save all you can till you get atleast $500 to spend. you will be much happier in the long run with a quality product.

Yep, as pbasil1 said, put the money you have now down on a quality headunit. Then, save up for front/back door speakers. Then, if you want to add bass, you will be needing to save a bit to buy the subwoofer, amp, and power/speaker wires.

You can sometimes come up with some really good deals on craigslist.com for your area. You'll find that young people are always willing to sell whatever to make ends meet, even if it means dumping 1000 dollars worth of car audio on the market for like 250 bucks or so.

Yup, craiglist is a good place to start, as well as Ebay....you just always have to be vigilant and use common sense when buying from people off those sites.
