Default Subwoofer resistance questions

So i bought a new Sub and amp on boxing week sales the other day, its an Alpine 10" SWS-1043D subwoofer and a Panasonic CY-PAD1003U amp, now the sub output on the amplifier can take a minimum of 4ohms (typical for most amps AFAIK) and the sub has dual 4ohm voice coils, when i bought them the sales rep told me that i would need to bridge two of the terminals (middle +ve to middle -ve) to create a series circuit over the two voice coils, however calculating the resistance here would give me 8ohms which would probably be pretty quiet.

When bridging the sub inputs into a Parallel configuration though this will give me a standard 4ohm load (R1*R2/R1+R2), my question is, will this work? they did have two kinds of subs on sale when iwas there, the dual 2ohm model of this sub or the dual 4ohm, so should i just connect it up in parallel or return it for a dual 2ohm model?

The sub is a good one for starters... I say kepp it. But toss the amp and get a nice little monoblock. Somthing from a reputable amp manufacturer, with roughly 300w rms, but as always, the more the marrier.

And you are correct in wiring. A dual 4ohm speaker in series would equal 8ohm, or in parralell would equal 2ohm.

Any other questions, just ask!

well i decided to keep the Panasonic amp, its seems to be a good unit and was half price reduced from $300 to $150, i went and swapped my 4ohm sub for a 2ohm dual coil one today, just gotta finish building the box for it

Good to hear. What are the plans for the box?

Just a ported 3/4" MDF box, almost finished building it, just gotta seal it and cover it, btw, is it better to mount the amp elsewhere or onto the box? Im just worried about excessive vibration damaging the amp

here's a pic of the box so far

You are supposed to mount the amp somewhere else, but most people do just go ahead and mount it on the box. If it makes you feel any better, I mounted a very high price Zapco 9.0XD amp on my last box and never saw any problems from it.

just mount it on top of some rubber gromets between the amp itself and the box. That way no vibration=no noise or damage.

It doesnt look like there is a prot in the box...? I hope thats not just a hole in the front of the box...! And get a dremel and bevel the corners of the wood around the port, it will increase port velocity and reduce port noise.
