Default Help Replace Pioneer Deh-p9800bt

as you can guess i have a Pioneer Deh-p9800bt. to me this is or was the best head unit on the market however my oel display has stopped working and i can not get a responce from pioneer about getting it fix nor can i seam to find any local shops that will touch it either. so. for all the car audio buffs out there. i need a head unit that has no less then the same sound quality provided by this head unit and no less then 5v on the pre-outs and there must be 3 sets of the pre-outs as well. i would like a single din. to be honest with you i think this is a pretty tall order. not only did i love the sound quality of this head unit. one of the displays on the ultra beautiful oel displays was whould show me my rpms but even more important was the system voltage as well. so thanks for any recomendations you might have. also if you know way i might be able to get this unit fixed with out exceding the cost of replacing it with a new one. im up for those ideas as well.

Any reason you don't want to replace it with an identical one?

I would say buy another... They are no longer produced, so they have come down in price.

Alpine has a few models that can compete with it. But if your like me, you dont like all the hype and complexity found on the Alpines. Nakamichi makes a very nice model, as well as Clarion.

Nakamichi is a very simplistic design, almost stock looking. And the Clarion if its anything like mine, is probably one of the most difficult to use radios ever made. But i will say the sound quality, and depth of control of the parametric eq was unparraleled.

My buddy has a 9800 and it was a nice unit. Layout was a typical Pioneer. Nothing different, so i was very familiar with it. There are gobs and gobs of 9800 owners very happy with it, and tons of review proving its quality, so the decision is up to you.

And dont get tied up with pre-out voltage. In theory more is better, but a proven fact is that many of the high output units cause clipping at the amp. Which is why many very high end radio's only use a 2-4v pre-out.

thanks for the input. im gonna try a authorized deal that pioneer sent to me thats in my area and see if i cant get it fixed. the reason why i didnt replace it with another is they are still expensive. 300+ on average for something that seams a little dated as for no i still have my sound settings and i can play cds. sadly tho when i unhooked the hd radio it lost the station presets so i cant really use that either. of coure im relly hooked on this unit its by far one of the best i ever used. as for the 5v i do like that. ive never had any issues with an amp clipping on it. my hifonics works wonders with it. and ive got a visonik highs amp that seams to love the voltage as well. so maybe i lucked out. im not a big fan of alpine and the clarions ive used in the pass were top notch so i might look at them again. or maybe and an eclipse unit not to sure. anyway thanks for the info

Well no offense but form the sound of it the head unit is complete over kill compared to the rest of the system. Thos amps just ruin what quality that head unit puts out. So IMHO, grab something a bit cheaper. You arent using all the pre amp features of the pioneer to their fullest. Just grab something more basic that still has a decnt eq built in and youll be set.

i disagree. i think hifonics makes good amps. and you get clean power from them as well. granted im not to happy with my highs amp but im in the process if replacing that one as well.

I agree to disagree. lol

Old old Hifonics stuff was great. But anything recent from them and they are just raw power. Nothing else.
