Default corsa new stereo not working

hi i have just got a 96 corsa ls d and it didnt have a stereo, so i went and bought one. it didnt work so it went back to the shot and they said i need a adapter so i bought it. still dont work. then i relised that when i push the key in and hold it there it works, but then let go and it goes off agen.

im realy cofused. any ideas?

Sounds like you have your stereo power wire connected to the wrong circuit, so instead of being a constant power (when the vehicle is on) it's only providing power when you're in the process of turning the vehicle on. Though I could be mistaken, please correct me if I am.
