i have n 03 protege5. i am looking at puttin in a system. somethin like 1000sub and amp. will my altenator handle the power>

May be but your car wont. Try a well rounded system nor just a sub and amp. Really a lot of power doesn't mean it will sound good or be loud.

i am looking at gettin 300watt kenwood speakers. 800-1000watt sub n an amp. i had a 1000watt sub n a 300 watt amp n my old car and it worked n sounded fine. i want a nice sounding stereo n my new car. what would u suggest?

The first problem is that you are measuring audio in wattage. A well balanced system will beat the pants off an unbalanced one any day of the week. What is your budget?

Best thing to do first is to upgrade all you speakers in your car first, then go with an amp and sub. Then Dynomat the whole vehicle if you wanna go that far into it.

What is your goal for this "system"? What is your budget, and what kindo of music do you listen to primarily? Do you have any knowledge on installing this type of equipment? What head unit do you have? These basic questions need answered before anyone can recommend you anything....
