Default [FT86Club.com] Subaru BRZ/Toyota FRS production models unveiled

Production models unveiled. These are the spiritual successors to both the Nissan 240SX and the Toyota Corolla AE86.

Production base model curb weight is to be under 2700lbs. For reference, my 1990 Nissan 240SX base model with hand crank windows and no AC was 2681 pounds.

Pricing will start at under 25K.

N/A 2 liter direct injection Boxer H4. Rear wheel drive - Struts up front with multi link in the rear. 2+2 seating. Dual piston aluminum calipers up front, single piston aluminum calipers in the rear. Quad pistons available as a upgrade later.

All manual trans model come standard with a helical Torsen limited slip. Auto models get it on the highest trim as well.

Looking to be introduced with around 200hp/180lb-ft of tq in a car about the same weight as the current Miata. Should be an AutoX favorite.

It's like something I would design for myself.

2500lbs looks to be entirely doable with some basic stuff, keeping the full interior.

Joint production. A turbo STI model is being considered as well.

Subaru has confirmed that the factory turbo EJ Subaru motors will bolt up, so swaps will be possible without too much work.

Four pot brakes might be included on the upper models. WRX/STi WRB is going to be an optional color, hopefully available on the base model.

Toyota would be dominated if they tried to make just another pony car. If you want a mustang, buy one. Or a Camaro, Challenger, genesis coupe, G35/37, BMW, etc, etc. The list is pages long of heavy high powered cars.

The list of light weight RWD driver's cars in contrast is very short.

The Toyota model coming to us shores will be called the Scion FR-S. Subaru will have it's own model sold here under Subaru.

The question isn't whether or not I will have one, it's how will I pay for it?

Also, I wonder if I would be laughed out of the subie dealer if I requested a radio and AC delete on a new base model car? You guys honestly think they would even work with me to get that special order? Money talks...
