Default [Popular Mechanics] 2014 Ford F150 Tremor

New to the forum! I searched for this topic and found nothing, so I'm starting a thread!

The Ford Tremor is the New SVT Lightning - Popular Mechanics

2014 Ford F150 Tremor. Love it already! Regular cab, short bed (which means short wheelbase), 3.5L ecoboost pumping out 365 hp and 420 lb/ft, with 90% of that available at 1700 rpms, and a short rear axle at 4.10:1 and electronic locking diff. This thing is going to be seriously fun to drive. And as far as I can tell, it looks great!

I currently drive a 2010 F150 Lariat Supercrew with the 5.4 and love it, but I really don't need such a big truck, and the 5.4 feels a little underpowered, especially compared to the ecoboost trucks. I also hate commuting in my truck. So I'm thinking I'll pick one of these Tremors up as a toy (and cause I love fast and fun trucks) and grab a little Fiesta or something for commuting. I've been lusting after a Raptor for years, but there is a certain stigma that comes from driving one around town... The Tremor might have solved that!

So far, I might be the first one to sign up for one of these. What do you all think?

Yes, we would all love to see a 5.0 ecoboost. But compared to the 5.4, the 3.5 ecoboost is a hell of a lot more fun. I have heard only speculation about what the 2015 motor lineup will be. Hopefully we will know more when the Tremor is released in the 4th quarter this year. A 6.2 would be best, IMO.

...and still no sign of a manual. What are you doing Ford? Do you want a sizeable chunk of your customerbase to never buy anything newer than 1996 or something?

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Not to mention meh fuel economy... Only slightly better than the 5.0 but when you put it to work the mileage plummets.

Ford really needs to stop screwing around and reach 20 years back for some new motors. 4.9 I6, 7.5 V8, 5.8 V8 all modernized a bit.

I think people are focusing too much on the fact that it's a V6. The fact is simple: 400+ lb-ft at 1700 rpms. How is that not desirable for a sport truck? Don't get me wrong, if they offer it with a 6.2 I will jump on that immediately. But seriously, have you driven the ecoboost? It's fast.
