a nine day traffic jam? I will never again complain about the 3 hour drive to Chicago on Fridays during Rush hour.

Holy crap. Only they have the patience to sit there for nine days. I'd be hitting cars and punching people in the face by hour 3.

I've never been in more than an hour long traffic jam..and that was horrible because there was two flipped semis. They were routing people between them. Semis were forced to wait, they couldn't fit.

I sat in a 45 minute one once in my Ford. Someone towing a boat lost it.

First the boat. Then the trailer. Then the truck. It was a 30-40 footer, too, two outboards. BIG boat. Totalled boat, too, half the hull was powder in the freeway where it slid. The truck was right ways up and didn't appear to have been rolled, but it was in the ditch and there was steam, so I assumed he impaled the rad.

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

lol once i saw a semi blocking a whole interchange. driver fell asleep, lost the rig. took the median, back end of the trailer came 'round. The truck was on its side, front corner was probably 4 feet into the dirt. Looked like a snowplow, except not snow

Never longer than an hour?! I need to leave Florida and come to wherever you're at!

Down here, it basically is assumed you'll hit major backups in between Tampa and Orlando on I4. Same is true for I95 through Miami. Traffic here is heavy, the drivers suck and are doing everything but driving anyways, and the roads (in Miami) mostly lack shoulders or pullouts. It makes for a nightmare when things go wrong.

Generally speaking after 30 minutes I make a U-turn in the grassy median (I love how indiana is too cheap to put barriers between 90% of the highways) and go back the other way. I did get stuck on I-74 for 3 hours once when a semi broke the steering linkage and hit another semi, and caught 3-4 cars in the middle. But we played a good game of 4 on 4 touch football in a field beside the road so I didn't mind too much.

After a week though I think I'd either give up on my car or pay off some of my poorer friends to take care of it lol
