Default [GM] Joule Creates Renewable Fossil Fuels At Unlimited Quantity.

Quote:
In September, a privately held and highly secretive U.S. biotech company named Joule Unlimited received a patent for “a proprietary organism” – a genetically adapted E. coli bacterium – that feeds solely on carbon dioxide and excretes liquid hydrocarbons: diesel fuel, jet fuel and gasoline. This breakthrough technology, the company says, will deliver renewable supplies of liquid fossil fuel almost anywhere on Earth, in essentially unlimited quantity and at an energy-cost equivalent of $30 (U.S.) a barrel of crude oil. It will deliver, the company says, “fossil fuels on demand.”

This is some good news

Why? The damn thing eats CO2, not that I believe CO2 even does anything...

Cheaper gas means more cars on the road, less progress in alt fuels, more smog, and back to a f the environment attitude. Now if they could develop a way to save the co2 from cars and recycle it say you empty co2 and fill fuel at the same time that may drop prices more and keep the air clean.

Smog really has nothing to do with carbon dioxide. Nitrogen oxides formed by the combustion reactions in engines cause the smog and many of the negative effects it entails. The best thing possible would be to just ban combustion engines, but that would require lots of new investment into most of the infrastructure in the world.

This fuel forming technology would enable us to lose the grip that malicious organizations like OPEC have on us. A complete collapse on economies in places dependent of oil might ensue, but it truly is their fault for betting all their chips on one item.

Fact is fossil fuels are still nearly the cheapest forms of fuel available. If we are not powering our cars with them, our electricity is produced with them. Until other fuel methods are more cost productive and well developed, we will not switch. Hell if we can develop this kind of stuff, we for sure can find a way to maintain a good environment.

There I am done ranting for now.

The only problems comes when you realize that CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with pollution or climate change...

If that's the case why do we monitor CO2 during Smop testing?
