Default The Beast Pt. 2 Work Log

Picked up a new to me beast V2.0. This is my unicorn, never knew these even existed with such desirable options. Just like I would have ordered it from the factory myself minus the color.

This S10 is an apple red 98 RCSB 4.3/5 speed/4x4. 211k on the clock. She runs very quiet, purrs like a new engine at idle.

The truck has factory 4 wheel discs, push button 4x4, manual crank windows, steelies with decent tires, vinyl flooring, a three person bench, and a tonneau cover out back.

It has several problems, not the least of which may have been caused by the P.O. Thankfully the truck was cheap so I don't care about running it hard. Had the back end out in every gear except OD on the way home.

Drivers door sags, fuel gauge doesn't work, ABS light turned on while driving home, rear discs are screeching, currently has a warm engine hesitation issue, and the 4x4 shift module was completely removed for "Not working right".

Pictures -

Window sticker.

$1200 cash. Title is good, and I drove it home from menomonee. Clutch grabs nice and strong, and the shifting action is nice and smooth.

I love this truck, but it sucks having to wait until Monday to register it. I just picked up a set of new plugs and a fuel filter to freshen it up over the weekend. After that is a fluid refresh and other immediate maintenance things. Already have new trans fluid for it.

Will have exterior pictures up once it's cleaned up some. Also talked with poconojoe and he confirmed that I do have the more desirable 8.5 disc brake rear axle.

Some shots. Current as of today.

Yes, I have a huge tach, no I did not put it there. I prefer a smaller unit in front of the cluster itself if not equipped from the factory.

ZR2 aluminum skid plates. Nice.

There she be. Also, non-AC truck, newer alternator, and new battery.

RPO codes. Still deciphering these.

If it were mine I'd undo that AC delete. I hate not having AC in the summer. Nice truck otherwise.

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

My thoughts exactly. I am looking for a set of either of these stockers, otherwise I am thinking about the soft 8s.

I looked further into it and my truck never had AC to begin with. The same way I would have ordered it myself.

Did some digging both in and under the truck and it looks like bubba really did a number over on the truck. I see more wire taps and splices on essential harness parts than I would ever dare to try myself. Also have enough change laying on the floor of the truck to buy myself some new parts.

I am going to need the three transfer case shift motor bolts as bubba left them out when he tossed the shift motor out. My 4x4 is engaged only via 15mm wrench on the front of the Tcase at the moment. The motor is completely gone.

I will be on the lookout at the JY for a set of seats like these, as well as a 98 4.3 tach equipped cluster.

Looks just like my interior, only with the nicer seats.
