I think that should give you the general impression...

I have rebuilt the brakes and suspension as required and my Wife had a hacker paint it...I pulled some chrome and replated it and we drove it all over creation for a few years.

Main mechainical issues are:
Fuel tank needs to be split and lined with a poyl insert
Transmission needs to be rebuilt--slips bad in reverse
Engine no longer runs (points is all I think that needs)

Shell is rusty (duh) and needs a media blast and serious metal work.
The interior is trashed...no headliner, seats will hurt ya..needs panels, carpet and everything.

Why? Why am I restoring this beast? Because it has a lot of character, is relatively rare and has great handling...I have outrun a few muscle cars on the highway with it--it has long legs...takes a while to get going but then runs well over 120...
All aluminum engine (215 V8 similar to the Land Rover powerplant) is (was) still running great after 34 years and no rebuild...but I let it sit for 5 years and it went to heck...

It is far from a basket case, but it is along way from being a delightful old car too.

So what's the prognosis Doctor?

Wow, looks like the paint is the only thing holding the car together. Looks really tough. I have never seen paint bubble like that. The car itself looks beautiful, definitely something worth restoring.

The hack that painted it painted right over the "house" paint that someone brushed on there about 20 years ago. Didn't do any real bodywork and juiced the paint so much it took weeks to get hard...then stretched out so thin you could see the crazing of the old paint under it. Since it was not my doing I had no way of rectifying it...a real shame.

This is a Nevada car that was originally very solid and almost rust free...but after a few years in the salt air of Florida all the rust in the pictures formed.

All that destruction could have been avoided i am afraid, by having a proper paint job and a car cover...live and learn...

Big hole in the floor pan too...

I know it's rough.

Defiantly a time-consuming project you've got on your hands, Druid. However, it's (could be) a great looking car, and as you said, not to common.

Prognosis: Fixable, but with lots of rehab.

That looks like quite a job, but it could turn out to be pretty fun and rewarding. Keep us posted with pics. Good Luck!

Nice to see someone restoring something unique! If I go to another car show & see the acres upon acres of '69 Camaros and '66 Mustangs, I think I'll hurl.

CyberD, You're just the iconoclast, aren't you!
