Default Just bought an '86 chrysler Fifth Avenue!

Just picked up an '86 chrysler fifth avenue for $700. Has around 70k miles on it, and has been stored for most of it's life.
Gotta love the shag carpet.

I wish I could...It's a family ride so the most I can work with is the stereo...and maybe the engine if I can sneak it.

It's got a real healthy 318 (5.2L) so I'm interested in seeing what this thing will do.

Well, the most me and my dad could get it up to is 85. The car shakes like nuts so he's pretty sure the choke is stuck, hopefully we'll have it fixed soon. All we need is a six pack and some wrenching and it should be good again.

My first car was a 1983 chrysler newyorker fifth ave edition with under 100K mint. Keep a look out for the box on side the air cleaner they go out a lot and causes the engine to run pretty bad. To bad you can't pimp it for I dropped mine then decided to lift in and but 205/60r15 tires and redid the inside in Greencrushed velvet built a box toblock the entire rear window with 6 6x9's and 12 motorolla horns 2 twelve in the spare tire well custom box amp rack on the shelf right above that behind the seat and 4X6 speakers in tall for door arm rest. got rid of the dash speakers all together. Alpine 3 disc changer to top off the dash the old bad one with the cartridge. And finally got rid of those dam niose hubcaps.

Dad always *****ed at the 5 or 6k I dropped in the car in high school but now I tell him that was my college education and he got off cheap. I learned everthing on that car from interior to body sound alarms engines brakes it popped my cherry.

Box on the side of the air cleaner you say...You mean the engine management system?

Ours has the cable that goes to it blocked off by a golf tee, you guys think that's bad?

Is there any particular reason why they go bad?

Unfortunately we've had to store the fifth avenue until we can figure out why it won't idle properly. It also stalls occasionally when you back up...

At least we've fixed the jumping/bouncing problem. Turns out the front left brake was binding real badly. Wore straight through new brake pads in about 2 weeks.

Anybody know of any tips or cheap things that work well to get more performance out of these 5.2's?
I'm thinking about porting & polishing the heads if I can get my uncle to help me with it. I will also be purchasing a new free flowing exhaust within a month or so.

I was looking at this site and was wondering, do you guys think the heads off a 360 and a 4 barrel carb would be a decent upgrade? I'm looking for lots of low end torque and i'm not quite sure where I should start other than a P&P and exhaust.
