Im pretty sure your springs are just saggy, it shouldnt be hitting on the fenders even on a 2wd. I have seen 2wd Rangers running 31"s no problem.

I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS


Previous emissions test: 443/220 HC, 5%/1.25% CO
Today's test: 111/220 HC, 1.4%/1.25% CO.



One fine little tweak and it will pass with flying colors.

1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires

Yeah. Put one on ages ago, before the super crazy high readings. What happened was the carb got WAY out of adjustment. I thinned the mix out 2.5 turns to get it to stop loping and running like crap when cold. I just need to give it another 1/8 turn in or so and it should pass nicely.

Got my F150 re-tested. 15PPM unburned fuel, no CO at all.

Got my front end done. The lower right ball joint fought tooth and nail, but after modifying a breaker bar I finally got it to cave. Put everything back together, hit the road, and I no longer need to hold the wheel to keep it in the lane.


There's still some play in the steering, 10-12 degrees, but that's just worn steering linkages. They'll get replaced in due time.

Update: The '85 got a fresh change of 10W40. I could not find any 15W40 synthetic. It objected when cold but shut up when hot. Next change will have to be 20W50 but the 10W40 won't kill it. The '84 now has the rear brakes repaired.
