Teste's Old Truck Resto Log [56K GO AWAY]

Finally, I get to start upgrading and restoring it instead of just keeping it alive. http://www.overclock.net/images/smilies/wheee.gif Trust me when I say there's a fair bit to do, it is a 1985 F150 with 265,000 miles on it after all. Looks like about four of them were easy miles.

Up until now I've just been working to keep it running. Not really making any progress into modifying or restoring it. But that will soon change, as I've managed to score a 3.27 Ring and Pinion for it. I also got an 8.8" posi housing, so if funds allow I'll rebuild that and throw it in the back as well. Pictures will, of course, follow suit.

The gears/housing came out of a 2000 Mustang GT, and have 66K on them. Much better than the 265K on my 2.49, eh? :p

O, hey, I now has before pix! lol it's pretty beat up, I have a lot of work to do before it's a 'nice' truck again...

First things first...the outside. Doesn't look too bad, tho it's easy to tell time has not been easy on it.

Something has to move this thing around...here's the motor. Runs great.

I have to sit somewhere...the interior seems to have survived better than the exterior. Seat appears to be brand spankin' new, there's no rips or tears in it.

I just wish I could say the same for the steering wheel, dash pad and pedal pads...

The tach came out of an '83 with a 351W. It works fine, but it thinks I have an 8cyl when I only have a 6 cyl. Result: Reads higher than true RPM. I can peg it without too much trouble. I'd love to have it recalibrated, tho. Speedo came out of that same truck, gonna take it back out and put my old one back in whenever I get around to replacing the speedo cable.

Idunno if ya'll can see it, but this is supposed to be the big crack in my windshield. This is why you don't try to hoodsurf a vehicle...

I'd change that topic name man, I thought you were talkin about your junk for a second.

lol, at least my F150 has an excuse for the trim to barely cling to the dash and the ball joints needing to be replaced...

Heh, it wasn't just you. I've been working 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts every day this week, so words are starting to blur together...I thought he said something along the lines of needing to get his testes and log restored. :D

I'm happy that smiley failed... damn thing pisses me off, lol.
Rebuilding the motor?

Kenny McCormick 02-16-2010 06:01 AM

What smiley? I don't see any failed smileys.

You mean this one? http://www.overclock.net/images/smilies/wheee.gif

And no, the engine isn't going to be touched right now. I will, eventually, pull it and go through it internally. Here's what I'm going to put into it that isn't factory:

Keith Black 0.030" overbore dished pistons(8.5:1 CR, stock)
Comp Cams 264H camshaft + matching lifters
Offenhauser 4bbl dual-plane intake manifold
Holley 450CFM Truck Avenger 4bbl
Hedman longtube header
Roller rockers
ARP main+head studs

All of that stuff I can buy off summitracing.com, by the way.

This stuff I want, but I'm not sure where I'm gonna get a hold of it.

Beehive springs
I might also have the valve bores enlarged and stab in some SBC valves, common thing to do for a 300. I'm not sure if I actually want to do this, tho.

Machinework I'm gonna have done:

Port+Polish+Port-matching
Balancing
Block decked(Head should be fine, it was recently machined)
Crank machined

All the other parts used in the overhaul will be OEM, and I haven't quite decided on what con rods to pick up.

It will be expensive, but it's going to be spitting out 400FT LBs of torque. http://www.overclock.net/images/smilies/wheee.gif

I'm sure the 3.27 gears will make it feel like it has another 50HP or so. :D
