Default sP00N's problematic F150 worklog thread

Figured I might just open up one of these style threads instead of an individual thread for each problem I encounter or thing I do to my truck.

1995 Ford F150
-Daily Driver
-~200k miles
-RWD (4x2)
-302 5.0L V8 Engine
-4R70W Transmission

Done:
-Almost all fluids changed from pitch black redneck recycled fluids.
-New Battery
-New Air Filter (Spectre $20 Stock sized filter.)
-New Wipers
-Replaced Rear Tires
-Replaced nearly all the bulbs and emergency blinker relay.
-Transmission Rebuilt
-Replaced beat up topper with a truck toolbox.
-Aftermarket Headunit / front speakers put in. (Kenwood)
-Repack front wheel bearings.
-Replace left inner tie rod.
-Fix front drivers side brake caliper clips.

To Do:
-Fix Leaky steering gearbox connector.
-Fix passenger door hinge and all loose parts
-Fully Insulate cab
-Alignment
-Fix torque converter issues.
-Improve sound system
-Tint rear window (Probably something around 35% VLT, nothing too dark.)
-Paint Front Grille and Mirrors red. (Give it more of a Lightning look )
-Replace front and rear bumpers with something that is more "Kentucky Resistant". XD
-Make and Install a Grille Guard.
-Fix body imperfections and repaint. (Black pinstripe perhaps?)

When I got it:

I'll take some more pics tomorrow.

I don't know why but trucks just look better without a topper, and longbeds can wear a bed mounted toolbox nicely.

lol I wouldn't say yours is problematic. It's no worse than mine. If anything, it's better off than mine is. At least you don't have front springs so soft it might as well not even have any. I've had some variant of every issue you have. Instead of a trans rebuild I had to replace the clutch, instead of TC issues I had to replace the clutch hydraulics, my steering is really floppy, I've got odd electrical bugs relating to the AC and starting systems(Though the latter is going to be fixed here soon)...I think it's just because these are good trucks so people beat the living hell out of them, and by the time we get a hold of them they're not exactly showroom fresh

Just a head's up: Wheel bearings are stupidly easy to do on these things. They have to be replaced any time the front rotors are replaced because Ford cast the rotor into the hub itself. It's all one chunk of iron. It would take you about 20-30 minutes to replace them on each side. At most an hour. I had to replace mine too.

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Don't get me wrong, I freaking love this truck. It's good to be able to pave people in a wreck than to be paved. XD Also it's been a great way to learn car mechanics.

Here's some photos of when I did a full interior clean. I remember being surprised that I had middle seat belts and finding a windshield's worth of glass.

It would look better with the chrome grille than red painted one.

Nice project truck, how come you have a 4R70W?

You should have an E4OD...

E4OD > 4R70W

E4OD: C6 with Electronic Overdrive
4R70W: Massively updated C4 with Electronic Overdrive and Wide gear ratios...

He should have the M5OD if you ask me. It's more efficient in the city than the E4OD or 4R70W

Agreed, or even better, the ZF5.

Get a ZF5 from an F-250 with the 351.

Or the trans from a F350 with either the 460 or 6.9/7.5 diesel. Never break those with a 302 and they'll bolt right on.
