Hi,
I would like to buy a used toyota corolla LE (2006). However, the owner told me that the car doesn't come with the electronic remote (it was lost years ago) and he owns only a normal (old-style) key. I am wondering which could be the price for a remote in a toyota dealer and if there are other ways to obtain a remote without spending lots of money. I read some blog in which people were suggesting to buy a remote in ebay and then program it. Is it easy? Where can I find exactly the model of remote working with this car? How can I link the remote to the car? Does the remote have a real key inside that have to be cut to match the original one? I hope somebody can give me an hint about the procedure and the money needed to overcome this lack of the car. Thank you in advance Mary |

You won't likely be able to buy a replacement on your own and be able to program it. Keys and remotes are specifically cut and programmed for your car only to prevent theft.
Your best bet is to bite the bullet and go in to a Toyota dealership. I'm really unsure what it will cost you, but I can tell you that for just a key without a remote on my 2003 VW Golf, it was at least $100.
