Adding in insurance/fuel costs to this doesn't seem to make much sense, isn't this more about being a 'build' thread? I mean, where do you draw the line? The driver also goes into the car, maybe you should include the money you've all spent on food to keep yourselves in tip top driving condition? LOL

Last year alone my insurance cost me $215 a month for just my 2002 Jetta

I use my car everyday (Mon-Sun) ~50 km's a day. The price for gas doesn't help either

I figured that gas/insurance/license/plates was a given...

I mean, they are pretty much something you can always look forward to pay every year.

I was referring more to mods/upgrades/maintence/etc.

"Out of the ordinary" expenses if you want to call it that. It's not like you do an engine sway every year either... At least I hope not

I mean, I know someone in my local VW club that gets an oil change (synthetic) at every 3,000 Km's... For him, that's about every 2 months and he goes to the local shop to get it done. That's a lot of money..

On average, i would like to hope only a few thousand, but if i consider all the mods ive done in the past 12 months, it comes to about $6-8k a year.

1 oil change in my car is about $75

I change mine every 3000 miles on my SRT-4, because it can get driven hard from time to time heh heh. I use fully synthetic oil also, Mobile 1, factory recommended, 5W30, one irritating thing that I just don't understand: Why all the confusion as to what IS synthetic, what is fully synthetic, what is blended (but called just 'Synthetic' on the label), it is all ridiculous.

Man, how much oil does your car take? I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic and it's about $50 including the filter.

I use expensive oil. True synthetics arent cheap. And arent popular either. Mobile 1 is no longer a true synthetic btw. Its now a "hydro cracked" mineral base. Still considered synthetic, and still a great oil for most application, but not quiet as high performance as some others.

Im using amsoil, or redline. Both are of the few true synthetics, so they hold up to abuse much better. The more power you have the hotter your engine runs, and heat kills oil fast.

Really, it depends on whether or not my engine craps a head gasket :P

A normal year I might spend about 1500-2500 bucks. This counts gas, maintenance items, everything. When I drop a head gasket, I acually save money over the year, as it sat for six months last time and the replacement is pretty cheap. I'd guesstimate about 450 bucks counting a 50 mile tow to do the job myself.

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.

1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Not including gas... I buy stuff here in there when its needed. But it's not like I'm tuning my car, it's rubage like floor mats and whatnot. Car wash monthly, sometimes weekly(during the school year). Way less than 500 year.

I had to click the $5000+ mostly as the exchange rate is still OK against the .

Id imagine nearer $7000 last year was spent, without insurance, tyres, fuel...
