Exclamation New PM Guidelines

Good evening

Due to some recent PM spam attacks, CarForum.net has changed the PM guidelines.

New users will not be able to until they meet either one of the following criteria:
  1. 10 days AND 15 rep points
  2. 5 posts

We feel this should take care of the recent issues, while not interfering with the day to day needs of Private Messaging

Thanks!

I rarely have got PM spam, but great to deal with it!

I'd also support "no links" until the same is reached. Spammers won't stick around that long. So many "gray" area posts that seem legit, but they have links to articles or something else.

Problem with that is it eliminates new users asking about craigslist/autotrader ads. We don't want it to come in the way of legit users.

I guess. Personally, I wouldn't ask random people (whom we are if they are brand new members) for advice on a car I am about to purchase. I would rather know their background of expertise first.

Spammers are looking for backlinks to promote sites. It has to be "click-able" to work for them. Even an image with a click-able link to a site works for them.

A new member can post the URL and other members can copy & paste.

I'd say even 11 rep would be sufficient. But cool, I guess?

11 rep would be kind of odd

But to be honest, 9 out of 10 users will break the 5 posts threshold before the 15rep/10 days one

I havent gotten PM spam either, is it either one or both as far as requirements go?

I know I have been fairly active on this forum, I should be able to PM at least a mod or someone...

I mean you could check other forums, I probably have 15000 posts combined on my active ones...
