Hello,
I hope that I am posting this to the correct place, but my questions is can you charge something in the car socket without it being on without having to do any rewiring? Or is there a device that already does this? Thank you! |

I don't know what you plan on charging, but you can buy a USB charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket.
The lighter socket needs to have power to charge anything. On some cars the power is there all the time, others only when the key is in accessory or run. They are cheap, go to an electronics. store.

Yes the 12V DC socket.
So whether or not something is charging is based on the car not on how the accessory is built? |

The plug in charger gets its power from the car's socket. Not all cars will have power at the socket when the engine is off, some do. Most plug in chargers have a light so you will know when the plug has power and can charge.
