I have to rewire everything anyways. SYNC or no SYNC, I'm going to be spending endless hours trying to find out why the Ford ran that wire there, what the hell this random gidgit is and what that other wire does. I might as well throw in an awesome audio setup, and do something unique, all at the same time.

1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires

oh, and I'm pretty sure you'll need a different BCM.

I don't have a BCM, cluff. My truck's so old that it doesn't need one, everything just uses a 12V line from the fuse box.

It was wired when Ford did it simply.

sync requires a BCM

Well, when I rip the system from the wrecked donor car, a BCM will come with it. I've got a great place to mount it, right now the highly primitive ECU mounts there. When I do the overhaul, an underhood mounted 6AL or similar will take over the duties the EEC-IV ECU performs(which amount to ignition advance right now), so I'll mount the BCM in that under-dash location.

Better fuel economy, a warranty, more power, something that works from the factory without a crapton of tinkering?

I refuse to buy a vehicle with an automatic. I'll drive one if I have to, but I'm not buying one. If I do buy one, expect a conversion thread to pop up. I am considering grabbing a Crown Vic with a blown engine or trans and swapping in a stickshift.

Bet ya can't guess what option a new one doesn't have

Hrm...

1: I already get the same MPG that I'd get with a V8 2009 F150. Not only that, but it's a 1/2 ton pickup. It's not gonna get good MPG. I'll have a 4cyl sports car if I need fuel economy
2. I am the warranty! Besides, you know better than that. You have real good first-hand experience with Ford warranty work.
3. I'm going to be making 450FT LBs when it's restored. If the 300 won't do it, I have a 460ci V8 sitting here that will easily do so.
4. Tinkering is fun. Also, I am the warranty. Not only that, but my truck is suprizingly tinker-free. I only really have to mess with it to adjust the carb every few months, and that's normal for ANYTHING with a carb. 572 Nova or 1/10 RC monster truck, it matters not.
