Default 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix dies on cold start...

I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. Has a series 1 3.1L motor, 3 speed automatic with overdrive. It is a bit up there in miles (235xxx). When starting it for the first time, of the day the engine will kill. The RPM's will go sporadic before it dies, sometimes jumping anywhere from 200-4,000 RPM' before the engine kills. Dropping it into neutral and restarting the engine will bring it back to life. It does have some problems after that but after a while the car will run normally.

There have been no issues with transmission slip or anything, and I have a brand new fuel pump as of last summer.

Does anyone have any idea where to begin in my search for the problem? I am pretty much lost...

Thanks

Faulty TPS or IAC is what comes to mind first.
