Default Ford trying to turn over without key.

May be a long post but I like to make sure Everything is explained beforehand.

I have a '91 Ford Mustang. 4 cylinder.
Just changed all 8 plugs/wires and the air filter today. Started the car up and it started shaking for about 15-20 seconds and then it smoothed out and drove fine for most of the day. Then out of no where I have a dramatic loss of power (I even floored the gas and was gaining speed very slowly on a straightaway.) I didn't think too much of it as I thought it would just work itself out.

So I go out to start it late tonight and it starts idling high (1100-1200 usually around 800-900) which it's never done before. It starts to idle even higher as i'm parked so i switch the car off and take out the key only to find that my car is turning over on it's own, trying to start itself. I put the key back in and turn it to the on position (NOT turning the key over, just to "ON") and the car starts up, without me even turning it over. Turned it off again and it started doing the same thing, just trying to turn itself over. It did that for about 10 minutes before it finally just stopped.

After that I started it right up and it acted completely normal, and it drove just fine.

What exactly is happening here? Is it something I need to be immediately worried about?

Very strange chain of events. I'd start with ignition switch.
