Default Ford 2.9 liter to 91 Jeep doable?

Hi so I have a 91 Jeep wrangler that has a tired 2.5 liter "iron Duke" but it's not dead just yet but I got to looking around my place and found a Ford 2.9 "with 172k miles" liter out of a automatic 4x4 87 Ford ranger.the transmission in the Ford is toast. So I though maybe when the 2.5 dies the 2.9 could go in? Is this a good idea or a big bad messy idea. Thanks for the info!

you want to install an engine that was not meant to be installed in that car, and mate it to transmission that was never meant to be pared with that engine.
i'd say it is close to 10.

The Iron Duke is a 2.5L GM engine, not Jeep. It went in a couple jeeps but not in YJs. You've got an AMC Inline 4.

That said, no it's not really feasible. The electrics wouldn't be too bad but mounting it probably would be. Nobody makes aftermarket mounts for a conversion like that because it's not much of an upgrade. 4.3L GM V6 or V8 upgrades however are pretty common. That would be a better route.

You could fab mounts and make modifications yourself if you have the knowledge. But if you're asking, I'm guessing that's not the case.

As always, enough time and money sure you can do it. But this particular swap is probably going to cost you enough money not to make it worth it, even if you are successful you've still only got 140 horsepower.

That's for the info everyone I with think about a v8 the only reason I don't want an 8 is the power would blow the rest of the drive train out if your not careful

yes it will, you'll need transmission and rear end from the same car\truck, you get v 8 from. otherwise what is the point of a swap if you can't use it to full potential.
