Hello. I have a 2003 Sunfire that had its battery indicator on for about 2 days. I assumed a weak alternator and left it until I got some money to fix it. However, my electronics cut out and the car refused to change gear (automatic). I pulled over to the side of the highway, turned the car off and tried to turn it over. The car was dead.
I had a mechanic put a new alternator in it and I drove the car home. The battery light was still on. I let the car idle for about an hour and during this time all the dash indicators turned on (Brake, Battery, Airbag, Traction Control, etc). Not only that, but it was shifting gears really hard (from park to drive/reverse). I took the battery out of the car and put it back in the morning. The car worked great, but the battery light was still on. I then let it idle and within 10 minutes the dash lights started to come on. When I put the car in reverse, it stalled on me. When I turned the car back over (after putting it in Park) there was no response, but when I let go of the key I could hear the starter trying to engage but not crank (sort of a scratching sound). My dad said it's most likely the computer module that's causing the issue. I'm away from home and I'll be putting the car in the garage next week. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm really at a loss here. |
