Default Shifting issues (automatic transmission, Mercury Sable GS 2004)

Hello,

I hope that maybe someone has an idea for this issue. I have asked already a few mechanics, nobody really has an idea.

To start with: I have a 2004 Mercury Sable GS, automatic transmission.

I bought it used and it worked totally fine in the beginning. At some point it started having issues when shifting from first to second gear. Meaning, when I push the gas pedal, it just keeps on going higher and higher to 3000 rpm but does not shift to the second gear. Only when I let go from the gas it eventually hops over. Otherwise it just slams brutally into it. .. not healthy of course.

At first it happened only after about 10-12 miles driving, now it sometimes does it anyways.

Not sure if that is only a transmission error (meaning, transmission will at some point just die) or if it could be something else.

The oil pan is leaking as we found out earlier and loosing oil. So I will get that fixed, but even with enough motor oil that error happens. Also it makes no difference if I am high or low on gas. Only, if the motor is running for a while or hot.

Same time, when it tends to not shift, the motor sounds like someone having breathing/asthma issues. Very heavy running in general.

I have no clue, except: that car needs to hold on a few more years, so I am looking if someone has an idea what else it could be.

Grateful for any help and input!

Thxxx

sounds a lot like transmission is about to crap out.
i assume few mechanics, that you asked looked at the car, and found no burnt transmission oil, no broken vacuum lines, wires....
