![]() Hello. We invested in a used VW Passat 3B2 1.6, mainly as "my first car" and a car we will use for learning. This car is manual and it seemed to work fine, the engine sounds great, no harmfull rust etc. But it has become obvious that after 300k+ kilometers, it needs some fixing.
The problems are; 1. Its hard to start, sometimes only when cold, sometimes only when its warm. 2. It really hates to go below 1.5k rpm while going slow, the car kind of just wants to die. 3. Yes, i am a noob when it comes to manual driving, but its really hard to drive perfectly smootly with this car. 4. When the car hits 4K rpm while accelerating the whole car feels like it has hit something hard, the engine kind of dies, and then it continues to rev like nothing happened. 5. The car accelerates harder at like 20-30% throttle, than at 50-60%. Over half throttle the car just seems to struggle, but no extra power is really gained. 6: The old sparkplugs that the last owner left in the back where clean, but had a gray/white tint on the electrodes, meaning the car is running too lean. I have cleaned the airfilter (wasnt too dirty so a new one felt unnecessary). The car doesent seem to have a vacuum leak, but i will listen for hissing noises. I dont have a service history nor a service book. Will probably buy a new one though. The spark plugs are probably new, since there where 4 old ones in the back. The clutch is a little high, but it doesent slip and it feels quite healthy. Now! The car is telling me that the fuel injectors need service! We dont want to pour in money into this car, so we just tried to pour in fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank, and the car actually seems to behave better! way better! But it still has the exact same problems, but they are less obvious now. But i doubt that all theese problems are caused by dirty fuel injectors? I havent found any new ones on the Internet, and other injectors are expensive! So is it worth taking them out to clean them thoroughly?. Is there anything else i should check? Like changing fuel filter etc? Very clueless on what i should check out. I havent done any repair jobs on any car before, i have my dad to help me. But he isnt too experienced either.. |
