Default How do I treat small spots of rust?

I have just bought a 2007 Peugeot 107, its in decent enough condition although there are 2 spots of rust right at the very front of the roof, and a slightly larger one further back which is starting to bubble the paint. What would be the best way to treat this? I have been told to just use touch up paint, but surely the rust will need sanded away or something first?

Thanks in advance for any help offered

Yes you will want to sand or scrape the rust out, then treat with a rust converter. The use touch up paint.

you got to remove rust, just paint over wont do, it will spread under paint, as it has towards the back of the roof. remove rust , use bondo aka auto body compound over the sanded spots. than i'd use plastic film on the entire roof, instead of touch up paint.
i actually did that in my old Honda, thou it was brand new when i did it, i did it for looks, black roof looked good on silver car.

Thanks for the advice guys, what grade of sandpaper do you recommend for getting the rust out or would using the Dremmel be a good idea? Also the bigger patch of rust is approx 1 inch square, would that be too big to get away with touch up paint?

Unfortunatley I cant really put film over the roof as there are already stripes running along the middle so I dont really want to cover them up

100-200 grit should do, idk how bad your rust is, but it is possible that some spots have rusted thru. you can paint any area with touch up, it may not have the best look however.
