Default GTi W12 Concept

Production seems unlikely; but maybe this could be Volkswagens version of Renault's Clio V6? Mid-mounted and rear wheel drive as well...I can dream

We just may have not seen this concept car if Bernd Pischetsrieder was not ousted by Dr. Piech last November.

Some details if you havn't heard:
This little beast has little relations to its production counter part. It is converted to rear-wheel-drive and a mid-engine layout (no rear seats). The twin-turbo 6-liter W12 engine is similar to the Bentley version, produces 650hp and 553 lbft of torque.

The body has a shorter wheelbase, and a shorter height; huge intakes draw air to cool the intercoolers and radiators. If you notice the rear side windows they curve inward, leaving freed C-pillars (makes me think of the 599GTB); it also draws part of the air to cool the engine.

Volkswagen is saying it could top 202mph and hit 60mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds.

Very nice lines for a gti. It really looks like it can go.

Hmm thats ok I guess, I have always been a VW fan, wonder if they could get better performance putting a smaller turbo charged v6 in it or something? The weight of the engine seems to be what is holding it back. There have been nissan skylines that can do 0-60mph in 2.7secs and they use twin turbo V6's. On another note I wish they would bring the Corrado back.

Specs sound very impressive but I doubt many Clio drivers would want to switch. For starters the air intakes look a bit too obtrusive. But I'd like to see it in the flesh and do a few laps, technically it looks great

Skylines have Straight 6's, and VW did have a Scirocco concept a while back, which I guess would be the equivilant of the corrado. I am thinking of swapping either a VR6 or a 9a 16v into my MK2 this summer. We'll see what happens - gotta find a cheap donor.
