Default Car Repair Services

My brake lights are on and off during the course of a drive. Also sometimes when I come to a complete stop my brakes make a funny noise. Does this have anything to do with the cold or could it be something else? Can anyone suggest a good car repair service in Montreal?

If the brake lights are working part of the time and not working part of the time you might have a wiring problem in the brake light system. You also say the brakes are making a funny noise, if this is a squealing noise or a grinding like metal to metal your brake pads/shoes are probably either worn out or nearly worn out and you should get them check ASAP. The weather shouldn't have any effect on the brake lights not working or the noise. I can't believe it's actually cold anywhere on earth, we've been in the 90'sF everyday for weeks. The brake lights not working part of the time could also be a bad or loose brake light switch. There's a web site that I go to often called www.cartalk.com and somewhere on the site they have a list of mechanics that are recommended by forum members, you might find a shop there that someone has recommended in Montreal.

I went to turn over my van and it wouldn't start? Also it was making a funny noise while turning the key. Is this the battery or alternater?

Forgot this. When I turn the corner and signal, my wipers come on. What gives?

If the noise is a clicking noise you probably have a weak battery or a dirty/loose connection going to the battery, starter or ground. Start by cleaning and tightening all the connections associated with the starting system.

I agree with FordMan59 that it could be a wiring problem in the brake light system. One car repair service in Montreal that I know about is Mister Muffler. Maybe you could give them a try.

Thanks for the compliment. I've been driving and working on my own cars and sometimes the cars of friends/family for nearly 35 years. I certainly don't know it all, but have learned a few things over the years and enjoy trying to assist others with their problems.
