How quick is quick?

Assuming you have coolant it it, does the top rad hose get hot before it overheats?

If not, the thermostat isn't opening.

If yes, then is the cooling fan coming on before it overheats?

If yes then likely the head gasket is gone of the rad is clogged.

If not, then the cooling fan or it's sensor is the problem.

i think that it is the head gasket, because the fan is coming on and also the upper hose is getting, and quick is between 10-20 minutes. also when turning the steering wheel the engine temp light comes on which i found curious, this only about 5 minutes before the light stays on. thanks for the help

What is the indicator that it's getting too hot? Just a light on the dash or a gauge? Or is it spewing hot coolant out the rad cap?
