Default Mike just bought a 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora V8.

Yep, got it at an auction. Have yet to pick it up. Not sure if i'm going to pick it up actually..lol. You're wondering why? The price due is $560 currently. It runs and drives. One of the best FWD GM sleepers of all time. The problem?

I accidentally bought it.

Anybody have experience with these things? Is it hard for a backyard mechanic to rip the motor/trans out of it?

The GM FWD V8's all had easily removeable subframes. There are thousands of pics of Deville's with the engine and trans removed for head bolt replacements.

It's fairly easy, you just need to either have access to a lift or really know what you are doing. This is one of those things where you could really hurt yourself if you mess up. It's 600+ pounds of drivetrain and steel all coming out at once.

You sure that's a V8? I thought those were only 3400/3800 V6s?

Regardless, it's a FWD man. Unbolt the CV axles, harness/wires/hoses, motor/trans mount and yank it out with a cherry picker. Pretty straight forward

They have a removable subframe, you do the opposite. unbolt everything from the car and yank the car off of the engine and trans and subframe.

It's a 4.0L V8 based off the Northstar.

Part of me wants to make a davesfarm vert...but then part of me wants to jack the roof up, seal the sunroof, and try and get a new windshield in and drive. The car runs and drives and nothing else is wrong with it, i'm told.
