Default Finally time to say goodbye...

Well it's finally happening. I found a 2012 Mustang GT with the California Special package for the right price and I'm trading the GTO in. The Mustang is Grabber Blue, Charcoal/Carbon leather interior, 5.0/M6, 3.73 gear ratio, 19" California Special wheels, and the front fascia with the fog lights in it already. I wanted the Brembo's but there were only 2 Mustangs within a 200mi radius and neither of them had the 3.73 gear. The Brembo's also won't work with the 19" CS wheels but I can get the SVT brakes from FRPP directly. However, it's both bittersweet and relieving at the same time.

Bittersweet for the fact I've poured a lot of blood(literally), sweat, and swears that would make R. Lee Ermey blush into this car. I was hoping for 11s before the end of the season but constant Marine Corps obligations kept coming up and lack of funds(well, AVAILABLE funds) prevented me from getting out to Byron or GLD the last month.

Relieving because I no longer have to worry about breaking something on it and costing Corvette prices and having to wait upwards of almost two months for replacement parts if there isn't 3rd party aftermarket equivalents. I've dropped some decent coin into this car but with the dwindling aftermarket support, increasingly higher insurance premiums, and decreasing resale value, it's time to say goodbye to it. I've already got buyers remorse(I haven't even signed anything yet) but I honestly think the Mustang will make me happy ten-fold because I won't have to worry about fixing expensive parts.

I've always said I disliked Mustangs because they are literally everywhere. At the same time, fixing them is dirt cheap because... well, they're EVERYWHERE. These new Coyote 5.0 engines really bit me in the ass and have never let go. I love the styling of the 11-12s and the engine is an amazing performer despite it being NOTHING like the 5.0s of the late 80s/early 90s. People are cracking mid 11s with a CAI, 93 octane tune(the 5.0s are optimized to use 87 from the factory), and drag radials.

I'm heading down to Plainfield tomorrow after work to sign the papers, drop my car off, and drive the Mustang home. I've already got the insurance all set up and everything is ready to go. It's funny because I'm going to put maybe 300 miles on it before putting it away for the winter. On insurance, monthly, I'll be saving about $30 and when I store it, it's going to cost $340/6mo when it would have cost almost $500/6mo for the GTO. Exact same coverage to sit in a garage for ~6mo for cheaper.

Pictures will be up probably Friday because it'll be dark by the time I get home unless I want to go creep some parking lots.

First thing though is I'm going to remove the badge from the grill.

Man that is mean...

If you ever need parts, I HIGHLY recommend

Tousley Ford Parts Depot

He's the guy I deal with for ALL of my parts. He charges 10% over cost, and you get your stuff either next day or the day after.

He also carries the FRPP stuff but might have to order them in..

The dealer by you (Wickstrom ford) is a utter ripoff, buss ford is a little bit better, but still outrageous. (They wanted 20 bucks for 8 pushpins for my bumper. I paid .19 each from tousley and was able to order the 4 I needed. )

If you ever order from him, Ask for Steve, and tell him B.Cluff from Focaljet sent you

Absolutely love the car man. The new 5.0's have more engineering into them than some entire cars built by other mfrs. I was drooling over a roush '11 model we had at a local Ford dealer, and the 302R is now officially on my list of cars to add to my collection.

Also, need more pics now. F/r suspension if you ever get around to it.

Your mustang was made 25ish miles away from my focus. Let's hope those 25 miles make all the difference quality wise.
