Default is this a good truck??

i have been looking around and i found a 1983 dodge ram d250 extended cab can any one tell me how reliable these trucks are?

Not very. It's a Dodge truck, the ball joints will fall out and the tranny won't last. There's a reason they never kept up in sales with GM and Ford...

yeah all it needs is a battery and brakes all around.
how much do you think it would run me for brakes and rotors?

The truck is likely front discs with rear drums. Costs to do this yourself will depend on how rough everything is. Two discs, rear drums resurfaced, and pads+shoes can probably be had for under $100 on RockAuto.com.

The engine is likely a 318, Chrysler's much loved and very reliable work horse engine. The auto trans I believe is a three speed, no OD.

If you have a non computer controlled 2BBL carburetor then you are in business. If it's computer controlled like my '86 Fifth Avenue, then it can be expensive and sometimes difficult to convert over to a more reliable, conventional setup. The computer controlled carburetors are awful, and you can believe me on that.

Much of this I am assuming based on the truck being an extended cab with the auto trans. Most people that went for these picked the V8 over the little 6.

i went to talk to the guy yesterday and he sold it out from under me. when he said hed hold it. but it is what it is i guess. so im on the look out again.
