Default When do you think the end (of certain practices) will come?

So in the last 10 years the auto industry has been going technology-crazy. Hell, it seems the days where a car was fine to us and we just wanted more power are gone (40's-70's), and even after that, we werent so crazy about technology (70's-90's), but now we cant get enough of it! Skyactiv, TDi, VVTi, ATTESA, etc. etc. it never ends!

So, I'm curious. When does everyone think will be the end of a few key practises be? (and by "the end", I mean that there will be VERY few cars left being sold of this type, and the general public will not be using this type of technology, or the technology has reached "the end" of it's life).

Petroleum/Gasoline Engines?
Diesel Engines?
Wankel Rotary Engines (for Mazda only )?
Otto Engines? (A full switchover to rotary or electric. If the engine runs on diesel, petrol, flex fuel, E85, whatever crazy canola oil crap you got; if it still has 4-strokes, it's an Otto)
Two Stroke Engines?

Personally, here's what I think.

Petrol Engines - 20 years left.
Diesel Engines - 25 years left.
Wankel Rotary Engines - 10 years left. (the demand just isnt there.)
Otto Engines - 40 years left. I'd love to say forever though Hopefully we learn how to make energy out of something else combustible... Or atleast advance the Otto some more... I love the damned thing.
Two Stroke - 30 years left.

What do you guys think?

I personally think that diesel with last much longer than your prediction, and rotaries will fall to the wayside much earlier.

Then again the world ends later this year, right?

Ohhh right! I forgot about that, in that case.

Petrol Engines - December 24th, 2012.
Diesel Engines - December 24th, 2012.
Wankel Rotary Engines - December 24th, 2012.
Otto Engines - December 24th, 2012.
Two Stroke - December 24th, 2012.

Gotta keep accurate.

Petrol engines will be around for at least another 50 years probably diesel also with the new alternative fuels that have been developed just not readily available yet. Unless we see a major brake through and battery tech.

Are you sure? The way petrol is going up in prices, I'm sure it'll get to the point where the general public will say "No." and car manufacturer's will say "No" as well.

A American company already developed a natural renewable sorce of fossil fuel. While a UK company has also developed a synthetic replacement fossil fuel. Both are predicting drums to sell at $25 a piece which will severely drop gas price once mast production can meet the supply demands. Like always once the problem is fixed people will more then Likely go back to not caring about gas mileage or the environment again. I actually think we are on a good track now to move away from current energy sources, but to slow and likely not to last.

Don't have on now. Some info from magazines. I had posted a article about the US company a while back, but can't find it now I think it was Jolie or something.

Wow. In that case, I think you're right with that 50 year prediction, IF this project becomes mass produced to the consumer.
