What are your main needs in this vehicle?

Will you need four wheel drive?

SUV/Crossover does not equal good gas mileage.

I mean I have a friend who gets 26 mpg around town and 31mpg on the highway but its a Equnox 4cyc.....and thats really good out of an SUV. If you need 4x4, then your looking at probably 22-23mpg best case, in an SUV.

Or feel free to drive that SUV and argue its not just a raised station wagon....jus sayin.

This. Will you be buying the car new?

What I would do if I were you would be to get a ~2010 VW TDI Sportwagen with the 6 speed. It gets nearly 60mpg and has a ton of storage space along with tons of torque. Plus it looks cool.

By buying something a year or two old you also save on the 30% new car depreciation and get basically a new car for 30% cheaper.

Lately it seems like Sudan has needed more cargo and storage space than a single Sudan too... considering it split into two Sudans:

TDIs don't get THAT good of mileage, dude. 45 or so. And horribly unreliable.

If you drive the piss out of it. My dad averaged high 50s on a road trip at high speeds in one...

They are more reliable than they used to be, and for most people who only keep their cars 3-5 years, its fine.
