Default motor oil question for road trip

I am going to be driving from Tampa FL to Los Angeles CA this summer. I drive a 02 Mazda protege lx with 120K miles. I have been using conventional oil up till now. For this very long driver a friend advised me to start using a full synthetic such as Castrol edge or Mobil 1 ) and adding Lucas oil stabilizer to it as well. Would this be a good idea, or should I stick to just switching over to synthetic OR should I use conventional motor oil and add Lucas to it?

Thanks.

Either oil is up to it. I wouldn't bother with any additive.

If a synthetic oil needs an additive it's not worth anything.

Synthetic oil is best. No additive required. I use Valvoline myself, havoline works on a budget.

As for a road trip, the same oil you use normally is fine. The engine doesn't care, especially when it's that young, about a long road trip. 15 miles or 500 miles is the same to it. Just make sure you give it a fresh change before you set off.

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Lucas is a gimmic. Run a good synthetic from castrol, mobile, valvoline, royal purple, etc. I would also suggest running a slightly heavier oil than what is specified in the manual now that your vehicle is getting into the higher milage range.

Stay away from Lucas oil stabilizer, thats a bandaid for when you've neglected your engine for thousands of miles. Any good API certified oil will be perfect.

This is sound advice. Its likely that your Mazda calls for 5w30. Since you live in Florida, a 10w30 oil would be better, as you don't need the extra friction modifiers for cold winter starts.
