Post 2.7 V6 - No oil on one part of the 2nd head

Hi.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2.7 V6. I heard a knocking noise and took off the top covers of the engine until I could view the camshaft. I noticed that the front head is nicely lubricated but the back head (closes to the the firewall), half of it is not being receiving any oil (the portion furthest from the timing chain). In addition, we found that one lifter (in an area that was receiving oil, and on the same block where half of the block is not receiving oil) was stiff.

Any ideas what the problem might be and how to fix this?

its a 2.7 those engines are absolute junk. (read about them online lol)

basically needs a rebuild or find a salvaged 2.7 and then sell it as soon as possible

The problem is that it's a Dodge 2.7. Dodge 2.7s are terrible engines and love to blow up. A lot. You caught yours before it came apart but I can guarantee you it's about to. The lack of oil on one bank is a sure sign of issues deeper inside the engine. Probably a spun bearing? Weak oil pump? Doesn't matter, continuing to drive that car is playing a lottery, with the prize being not being left on the side of the freeway holding bits of connecting rod and engine block that are no longer attached to anything.

The best course of action is to ditch the entire car for something that doesn't have a 2.7 in it. I suggest literally any other brand on the market besides a Mopar of some sort. Ford, Chevy, Kia, Daewoo, Honda, Toyota, anyone but Mopar. Most 2.7s live to roundabouts 100K and then start knocking. Some miracle engines make it past 150K but most are doneskies by that point. Some barely make it to 75K before letting go. They're just not very good engines.

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!
