Default Idiots in crappy cars

Ok this is a bit of a rant since this is a huge pet peave of mine. Why do people with crappy cars try to pass them off as fast? A few days ago some idiot kind in a sunfire tried to drag me at a red light in the city. I guess he thought that spoiler he put on it was going to make his car go faster. Anyways we are at the red light and he revs his engine and looks over at me. I give him the wtf are you thinking buddy look, then he looks over at me again and then starts thinking that may be his 130hp dinky car might not pull ahead of my 265hp/288lbs torque pickup (even though he did put that spoiler on it!) So then the kid basically pulls ahead so he is basically in the middle of the intersection about half a car length ahead of me during a red light. Oh I forgot to mention this was a two lane road that was merging into a single lane (another one of my pet peaves people who try to cut you off cause they didn't feel like changing lanes earlier.) So the light changes and I hammer on the gas, tires squealing and I shoot off and the kid basically s*** himself and stops in the middle of the intersection as I blew by him. I don't condone street racing, and normally I don't do that in the truck cause its not a racing car, but I'll be damned if I'm going to get cut off by some weenie in a sunfire with a spoiler. I do know that not everyone can afford a super car, but seriously, most people buy those vehicles because they need something cheap to get from a to b, and thats fine, just don't get it into your head that those things are racing cars. /end rant

I feel for you 100%

But something that bothers me even more... are the guys that try to pass of theire cars to be the higher end model, becasue they didnt wanna pay for the better car from the start... Like a wrx souped up with a body kit and muffler, to LOOK like and STi, same thing with the lancer evo's, and the silvia 240sx's...

Sometimes people will rev against my car just because they want to see how fast it is. People in Subaru Outbacks and the like that just trying to goad me into dumping the clutch and squealing some tires (even though my car doesn't really squeal tires AWD and all). If it is at night and they don't seem like a bunch of morons I will humor them sometimes with a quick start and accelerating up the speed limit as fast as I can. Occasionally people in new Vettes and the like will also rev against me and I am like you have a nice day mister Vette as I don't really go in for races I cannot win.

I have a 1.6 escort, i certainly admit its a pos when people say "do you recon its fast" etc but i still try to race, lol, for laughs, its really funny when you pull up to a real smart car like a porsche and rev, there like WTF?!
Not so funny when they start racing you and get pulled for going to fast lol! (944 turbo)

I drive a 2007 328i which is pretty damn nice if you ask me but not that fast, on the same day a few weeks ago I got raced by a brand new BMW M6 and a 996 Porsche Turbo. The M6 was driven by a bunch of probably 20 somethings probably just out for a good time so I humored them but the Turbo was driven by an older guy who probably needed to prove to himself his Porsche was faster than my car lol, I hit it hard just to see how much faster he was, both cars absolutely ran away from me though haha.

Both times the other driver initiated the race, the M6 driver just looked over at me and then took off and the Porsche kept eyeing me in his rear view mirror and then decided to take off when the light turned green, what an insecure old man

Wow, you must have proven that you drive a racecar by beating him at the light!

Oh, and the reason people buy cheap "dinky" cars and not more expensive 265 HP pickups is because they don't have enough money for one, or have a passion for that particular make/model.

Oh, and I really don't see why what you said bothers you, pbasil, care to elaborate? The only thing I could think of that I don't really get is the kit cars like a lambo based on the VW bug. I mean the only reason I would have one of those is if I am trying to be funny or look ridiculous.

I like to think that I tolerate mostly anything I see on the road. If I see an old accord with altezza taillights and a wing, I just laugh to myself and see how he reacts to my POS looking car revving its engine.(To understand this better I'll tell you that in the VW community everyone likes to make fun of hondas and mustangs and such. Even though we don't care much and mock Honda drivers, some, like me, are really respectful and actually envious of honda's well flowing heads and engines. Not enough to actually get a honda, though, or swap an H22 in or something don't worry spooky, you're still cool with your Honda Del Slow! )

I really don't street race at all really. The only thing I can think of is from Waterfest this past weekend. During traffic, for example when me and a VW next to me would have a couple hundred feet of space ahead of us, we would just do a 2nd gear pull or something. Purely for fun, though. This was Waterfest, and everyone had the VW/Audi spirit in them, so they completely understood that no real competition was involved. I was curious to see my car's capability compared to other dubs, and my stock 8v MK2 actually kept up with a 1.8t MK4 GTI.

I say that because its fake... as hell. No matter what you do to a regual lancer or wrx, it will never be equal to the sti or evo versions. Frame and up they are vastly different cars. Even the interiors are different. People will buy a standard wrx or lancer and bolt on a few body parts of their big brothers, and play like they are the real deal, when anyone with any common car knowledge will tell the difference. I just have no respect or liking for this type of wannabe nonsense.

Well you forget that they might be trying to pick up chicks at the mall who don't know that the car they drive is not the car that Paul walker drove in what ever Fury movie that was. Was that two or 3 I cant remembers. Needless to say the only reason that most chicks went to see that movie was because he was in it. They really have no perception of how fast a car is either. Its called being fake. we all know it but some people still want to try and be something they are not. I want to be a formula 1 driver but unfortunately that isn't going to happen. I still drive like one when I head up to Flagstaff or Sedona. I seldom race in a straight line. If I do I am not the person who started it. I don't rev I just give it my best. I usually will race a car that I know I can beat though. Usually it is because their body kit and system added 1000 pounds to their car. I never have liked drag racing that much. I do like some of the technology behind it. Turbos are really cool but I would much rather take a corner than drive in a straight line. If my car had a turbo it would have to be small one I would not want that uncontrolled surge of power that comes with a huge turbo on a small engine. I would need it to give me power from about 4000rpm up. I wouldn't do it though. I would if I had a spare car maybe.

To each his own. Look at the past people have tried to make their cars look faster in the past as well. Not much difference. I know of some people who drive 3 series beamers with M badges. I have seen people who have GTIs who have R32 badges on them. I personally would prefer a GTI over a R32 though. My friend has a GTI and his girlfriend has a older R32 and they are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to racing. She has the stupidest door chime though. When you open the door it plays La cooka racha, La cooka Racha. They will not tell me the story either . What about the people with v6 mustangs with GT badges? What about the GTs with Saleen badges and stickers? what about the people with non eddy bauer ford SUVs with eddy bauer badges. ITs everywhere in the world. Who here hasn't dated a chick with knock off sunglasses and knock off purses. My ex bought me a pair of fake oakleys that match my car. I don't care. I told her she paid too much. I think 30 bucks is too much for sunglasses. I bought her a real DB purse. She bought a fake DB wallet to go with it. She told me how to spot a fake luis vuiton bag. I could care less but I can spot a fake one.

Who here has not added a baseball card to there rear tire on a Bicycle to make it sound like it had a engine in it? Did it have an engine? Didn't think so. I am glad none of us played cops and robbers with real guns as kids

We grow up imitating. And some people do it the rest of their lives. Its when you decide to step it up a notch and take what is real that you see in life that you want. And you take it to the next level. I look at the people I work with and often size myself up. I look at what they are not doing and I do something to make myself stick out. This summer when I am not working as much I have decided to teach the lower level technicians in the company to become decent projectionists and camera operators. People who are at the bottom rung of the company who want to make more money. The VP is one of my best friends at work. I aspire to be like him. every piece of advice he gives me I take. The owner of the company knows me by name. Most of the people know me by name. On a slow day once I made a delivery to one of our properties that I usually don't do shows at. There was a guy there and he was talking down to me He thought I was new because I didn't know how to fill out the paper work for the delivery. He said well then they need to train you better. I said just help me out I don't do this often. Then we took the stuff up stairs and the Director of audio visual there gave me a man hug. The guy asked who I was I said I am one of the production managers from corporate. Basically the Swat team for the company. Any show that is too big for you guys to handle we take care of it. He apologized to me. I didn't care. I gave him my number and said call me if you ever have any questions. The reason I made that delivery was because one day the owner of the company delivered something to the place I was working at. It surprised the hell out of me. It made me respect him more. It is one of the reasons why I still work for this company. I have been offered more money but turned it down because I know he will take care of me if I only follow his lead. I imitate him only because I want to be successful like him.

I don't do this with my car though lol. I might want a lotus elise, But I will not re badge my car as an elise

I already stated that in the post, I know why people buy those cars, and I wasn't the one who initiated the race, he was the one trying to cut me off at the light. A sunfire is a sunfire, and personally I can't see any good reason for buying one, considering you could probably get a better used car for around the same price that could actually be tuned into something good. I see a lot of 240sx's for sale for less then 2grand sometimes, RWD and lots of aftermarket tuner parts, that car has pontential. An older mustang would work as well.
