Default Petrol, my car eats it, why?

It EATS petrol, like crazy!
Even when im not revving it like mad it eats it crazy, its not leaking and its only a 1.6L 10 year old escort.

I tried stuff similar to redex and it has done nothing at all, if not made it worse.

Any ideas?

Your car has electronic fuel injection, correct?

If it does, a number of parts can cause high fuel consumption: the coolant temp sensor(the one that runs to the computer, not the one for the gauge or light), fuel pressure regulator, oxygen sensor, bad fuel injector(s), even the computer could be messed up. There's probably more than that but that's all I can think of at the moment.

It would probably be best to take your car to a mechanic you trust and have him do a complete diagnostic on the engine's electronic systems, as you can get into a lot of money replacing parts blindly.
