Default Are car audio options from factory peak or RMS?

I keep seeing these "1800w B&O audio system [ ] $15,000,000,000" or "2100w Bose 160,000 speaker audio system [ ] $50,000,000,00000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000" options when I'm messing around in car configurators. I can't seriously believe these have that much RMS power. Jesus christ a wall socket trips at 1700w +/- 200... I can't even believe there's much above 800w. Don't these people that spend their entire income on audio need to have like nuclear generators and liquid nitrogen to get something like 2000w?

I know there's an audio section but I don't feel like waiting a month for a reply.

You would need one hell of a battery/alternator/amp combo

Big alternator, coupled with one or two deep cycle batteries in the trunk will provide way more usable power than a standard 15A 120V AC outlet can. You would be surprised how big a system you can stick in a car (not that I advocate it)

I have over 3000 watts of RM power available in my truck. Check out the build thread. Yes you can build a seriously power stereo system. But power really means nothing. Its just a small factor in a complex equation that makes up a good system.

2000watts in a car is only 148 amps of draw. Thats not factoring amp efficiency and inherent power loss due to resistance in the line. So itd rally be more like 175 amps... A big alternator and a big battery or two will sustain that.

Haha, on the contrary. I have a lot of respect for the guys who take the time to design and build proper high caliber car audio systems. However, the guy with $300 in ebay crap in his trunk that sounds like somebody ripping ass into a microphone can get lost.
