Default NEWBIE has a question regarding oil change

I have a 2007 toyota corolla and im very inexperienced when it comes to cars but id like to know a little more, starting off with maintenance and oil changes, I believe Toyota reccomends my car get an oil change every 5,000 miles. However, I've read that cars nowadays usually need oil changes less often, im at the 5,200 mark since it was last changed and this is how its lookin, to me it appears to still be good but tell me what you guys think.

You're looking exceptionally good there. If it smells like oil, there's no grit in it, and there's no milkshake-looking goo under the oil cap you'll be good to go for another 750 miles at least. I wouldn't go more than 6,000 miles, though, your oil filter is the limiting factor and it needs to be changed when it fills up.

For the record my oil has turned pitch black by the time it's got 5,000 miles on it. Your engine seems to be in pretty good shape internally if your oil is still golden colored at 5,200 miles.

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Send it in for a UOA and get a TBN. Could tell you weather or not to extend or leave at 5k intervals.

Honestly, i would take a sample and send it to Blackstone. They will test and analyze your used oil from your engine, and tell you how much life it has left. A quality synthetic in a modern car under normal driving conditions should easily last 8-10k miles.

Black stone does very affordable and accurate sampling on used lubricants. Check them out and give it a shot, youd be surprised what they can tell you about your engine from a small used oil sample!
