What happens if a real emergency vehicle approaches the intersection at the same time? Who will get the green light?

don't think it'll work. remotes just send out ir signals at diff. wave lengths depending on the code. the strobes on an ambulance doesn't send out any type of ir signals or any signals for that matter. most modern emergency vehicles send out an emergency signal..or a device on the vehicle does actually. thats why most high end police radar detectors have an emergency vehicle sensor to detect when trains, ambulances, etc. are near by. mine has this feature and its pretty cool. it detects moving trains, ambulances, road working crews, etc. so i highly doubt a t.v. remote can change a red light green. correct me if i'm wrong though.

Sounds pretty unlikely, reminds me of the time i saw a video of a 6volt battery that had 32 AA batteries inside of it. BS.

CavySleeper:

Being a firefighter, I can offer some insight to this.

The traffic light in my area are equipped with devices called "OptiComs". These will allow our units to get green lights as soon as we are within range of the light. It does this by way of an infrared beam emitted from a mounted emitter on top of the unit. This has nothing to do with our strobes whatsoever.

This could be different in different areas though. I know not all the lights in our area have Opticoms.

BUT: This video is obviously BS. Inputting 911 in the remote was just stupid.
