Default good car for winter?

Can someone suggest some cars which are good in the winter. Preferably it would be better if they weren't 4x4's. It's not that I have a problem with them but they are not quite suitable for myself. I've read a few lists [ Top 10 cars for winter driving – Part Two | Car and motor industry news ] but 4x4's seem to dominate the lists.

You want something light and front wheel drive with winter tires. An AWD car would be even better

We previously owned a 2005 Nissan Murano which was spectacular in the winter.
